David Bote? Who would’ve thunk it? With all the star power on the Cubs, it’s this guy that seems to have IT. Not saying he’s the only one; the star studded lineup of the Cubs have all taken turns being hero. From Baez to Rizzo, from Schwarber to Bryant to Contreras, they have all had their share of big hits…some more than others. But this guy…yeah, he definitely is a keeper.
Never would have thought that. Sure, he was a nice story last year. I was there with my son when he tied up the Dbacks at Wrigley right before Rizzo won it. Yeah, I missed his big grand slam live, but I’ve watched it 100 times since then. He walked off the other day before going to see his son born. This guy that I didn’t hear of…shame on me for not keeping tabs on the minors…comes up and makes some big hits. Good for him. One year wonder…flash in the pan. No way he can do this on the regular going forward.
Then he signed an extension with the Cubs. Well, maybe this guy will stick. I’m definitely rooting for him. It’s a win win win. He does good, good for him, his career, his family. He does good, good for the team; don’t great teams always need a guy like this? Somebody you don’t expect to be a major contributor, but he’s holding his own and then some. He does good, and is that guy for the Cubs, and another title is lifted, then good good good for us the fans. Like I said, fly three of those W flags.

That ball was absolutely demolished. And he did it again. 2 HRs and 5 RBIs…not a bad day in the office. I was hoping he would hit a third, but then they hit him. I don’t think it was on purpose. Bote had some choice words after that which got all the players on the field. What do you expect a guy to say when he gets hit with a fastball? Cut him some slack; he didn’t bum rush the mound. Cooler heads prevailed, and the Cubs went on to get the W and even the series. Setup for another series victory on Sunday with Q on the mound. I like our chances.
He plays great defense too. Nothing against KB at third; I think he’s solid, but Bote seems to be better. Our best lineup may be with Kris in the OF. Heyward in CF may have to happen more frequently. Thought we were going to do more of that last year; it happened, but not that much. Yeah, then there’s the whole return of Addison coming soon; that infield is getting pretty crowded. And similarly, nothing against Russell at SS, but Javy is better. Interesting to see it all play out.
But it’s cool to see Bote be such a big part of it; making decisions tough, or maybe easy for Joe. How can he not be on the field right now? More to come, much more, but I’m all about Bote Time. Santa Maria!!! Did he get it, did he get it? Go Cubs!
