OK, let’s take a break from the Bulls season going up in flames to focus back on baseball; last time we chatted both teams were off to a good start. With a combined 12-7 record, we were making plans to meet in the World Series. Well, we know the Sox have a legit shot to get there; we knew the Cubs were a long shot. What we didn’t know is how badly the wheels would fall off both teams so quickly… it was all good just a week ago…
The Cubs finished up a 2-5 homestand vs the Rays and powerhouse Pirates; I’m not surprised. I am surprised that we scored 21 runs on Saturday; unfortunately, our run total in that one game was more than the other 6 combined. Like they say… save some of those runs for another day. The Cubs are now 7-9 with only the 3-13 Reds preventing us from residing in the basement. Are you not entertained? We got screwed plain and simple. We dumped every good player we had and replaced them with… OK, Contreras is still here… for now. And yes, Suzuki’s early returns are very positive. But come on… it’s not like we’re talking about the small market A’s here. Did you see their attendance the other day? 2,703 people!!! The lowest since 1980. Crazy. Good for them though… stick it to those owners who strip your team down to nothing. Unfortunately, we’ll never see that in Wrigley… well, not THAT low. It has been slim pickings for some of these April games, but not THAT slim… even in 40 degree weather. We’re going to support our Cubs regardless, and the owners know that… and they use it against us. Bastards.
If you thought 2-5 was a bad week of baseball, let’s talk about the Sox week. Try 0-6! WTF?!?! The Guardians and the Twins took turns beating up on the heavy division favorite this week. I guess the Sox early injuries are too much? Still, the Sox are scoring runs at a Cubs pace; 12 total runs in the 6 games played. That’s just flat out shocking. I know it’s early; the Sox are too good on paper to play THIS bad. Still, not an early good indication, except the last time the Sox lost 7 games in a row was 2005 when they won the World Series… just kidding. I guess it’s cool when they post stuff like that, but does 2005 really have anything to do with 2022? Haha… The Sox are currently 6-9… worse than the Cubs for God’s sake!!! Although 6-9 has a nice ring to it, it’s good for 3rd in the AL Central. Surely the Sox will bounce back this week vs the Royals for starters. I mean, they can still get to 153 wins this year…
OK, feel better? Geez… our one shining hope the Bulls are one step from done, and now enter baseball where the Cubs are going nowhere and the Sox are starting off shitty. The Blackhawks are done done. When does Bears season start? Well, the NFL draft is this week… yay??? Just remember: it’s the bad times that make you appreciate the good times even more. We’ll be back one day… one day…
