April 25, 2018: The Semis

posted in: Blackhawks | 1

Still can’t believe the Blackhawks aren’t in the playoffs…. maybe I’m going through withdrawal… that’s why I’m paying so much attention to these NHL games.  The field has been split in half; the semis are here.  Let’s take a quick peek.

Let’s start closest to home with the Bread Man.  What happened in the rest of that series?  He came out, like Columbus, like gangbusters, taking the first two in Washington.  Well, it was all down hill after that, and the Blue Jackets and Panarin are joining the Blackhawks as fans the rest of the way out.

So what’s that mean for Breadman… as far as, how do you feel about him now?  After the first couple games, we sure were missing him.  And now, that a team he was on did not advance past the first round again?  Saad will still have something to say about that.  Certainly expect better things from him next year.  Maybe you’ll already at the decision, but for me, the jury is still out.

Vegas and San Jose swept through their series, which kind of messed me up… no more 1st round late starts!  I was enjoying late night hockey, but will have to wait for their 2nd round matchup.  On the other side of the West, the “state of Hockey” was knocked out… don’t mind seeing that.  The Jets are my team to go all the way… well hopefully at least one more round.  They’ll face Nashville in the 2nd round.  Hate those Predators.

Swinging back out East, the Penguins will face those Capitals.  Can the Caps finally get past these guys?  I sure hope so.  Not a fan of Washington, but hoping to see Pittsburgh eliminated soon.  The number one team out East, the Lightning were waiting for their opponent.  It went down to a 7th game in that series.

The Bruins and Leafs played the only Game 7 of the first round.  I was watching the score go up, up, and up, as both teams were lighting the lamp.  I tuned in for some of the 3rd period to see Boston put it away.  Bruins Lightning should be fun.

Watching Game 7 brought back some memories.  It’s the best game… everything on the line… no room for error.  Not sure why the first one that comes to mind is the one we lost against the kings in the conference finals in 2014; that was painful.  Of course there were others, like the OT game against Detroit to complete our comeback… the one against the Ducks to finish them off.  None of the 3 Stanley Cups went to 7.. kind of like all 6 of the Bulls back in the 90s…. the Cubs made up for that in 2016 though.

Looking forward to watching some more hockey.  The best part is that there will be a lot of late games this round, and at least one more round of the west coast starts.  Top two teams left to root against are the Predators and Penguins…. top two teams to root for are the Jets and the Golden Knights.  Still missing the Blackhawks… have to settle for this to get my playoff hockey fix.

Definitely miss the Bhawks being the playoffs even though this is the 1st year in the last 10. Actually seems like more since they got swept in the 1st round last year. Oh well, the sharks and knights advanced easily and match up in a great 2nd round that should go 7. The preds and jets round out the west in another series that should go 7. Hopefully, some ot hockey…double, triple, quadruple anyone? OT hockey is even better than playoff hockey…can’t miss stuff. Heading east, the caps play the pens in what seems like a yearly matchup. Come on caps, climb that hurdle finally and take them out. The lightning play the bruins in a “I hate both teams” matchup. Whoever wins this one I hope loses in the conference finals. I love playoff hockey even without the Bhawks. Nothing in sports like the Stanley Cup playoffs. The Bhawks will be back next year, and I will be ready to let my beard grow!
