April 21, 2021: Taking Two Out of Three

posted in: Blackhawks, Bulls, Cubs | 0

Wednesday night brought us a full plate, with the Bulls, Blackhawks, and Cubs all playing at the same time. What to do, what to do… Normally, I end up sitting on the Cubs game until commercials; earlier in the season, which is later in the season for the Bulls and Blackhawks, I may cheat a bit their way, especially if these last games are preceding a playoff appearance, and the games are a bit more important. It’s becoming a bit easier to make these decisions…

It was really easy to eliminate the Bulls from contention on Wednesday night, especially considering they’ve been eliminating themselves over the past few weeks… ba da dum! Yes, after the big trade, one that I still think is a good move, it just hasn’t come together, and now Zach is out. Well, just like I don’t feel sorry for other teams when we play them without their superstar, I’m sure the Cavs didn’t care either; they kicked our ass. I mean, it was over after the 1st quarter. Sure, the Bulls have made some big comebacks this year… not as many as the big leads they’ve blown, but enough to remember a few. Without Zach though, the chances of that happening were bleak; unfortunately, I was right. And now, I know there are still 14 games left, but looking at our opponents, and currently sitting in the 12th seed in the East, I think there is a better chance to get a top 4 pick that we can hold on to, vs us making the playoffs this year. Who would have thought? I didn’t want this… I never want this, but… it sure looks like the tank is back for a late season appearance… This sucks.

The Blackhawks were busy digging their grave on this night too, trailing the Preds 3-1 heading to the 3rd period; they actually went down 4-1 in the 3rd period. I guess I shouldn’t have given up on them… They stormed back to tie it and eventually win it in OT; wow! Nice job boys. This was a huge win, even if the Preds still got a point out of it, even if we still trail them by 3 points in the standings, even if the Stars are ahead of us as well; we needed it. We need to beat the Preds on Friday night in regulation to survive this week, and keep our playoff hopes alive.

Then there was the Cubs… scoring a shit load of runs again vs the Mets. The offense is back? Well, sort of. The Cubs have had 2 offensive explosions in the past week, which is certainly better than not having them. After watching the first couple weeks of the season, it was exciting to see… I just wish they’d save some of those runs… spread them out… It’s been feast or famine with the boys, and nobody encapsulates that more than Baez. He does have 5 homers and 16 ribbies, thanks to a Grand Slam on this chilly evening at Wrigley, but he sits barely above 200 and is well on his way to leading the league in strikeouts. What do we make of all this? Well, I’m just going to shut up and take the W; my complaints about the Cubs will always, always be trumped by a W… I’ll save my bitching for when they lose… haha.

So yeah, taking two out of three on a Wednesday night in April is not such a bad thing. At the very beginning of the night, it looked like a clean sweep the wrong way, but the Hawks manned up, and the Cubs found those big bats, and Chicago rests a bit easier… or at least I did. Onto Thursday…
