Wednesday afternoon brought the return to Wrigley to watch a game for the first time post-championship… Wrigley PC if you may. It felt good… really good…. really, really good.
The best part about day games is the parking situation. No need to pay $40 for parking or walk a mile. No, the parking restrictions kick in at 6pm, so any spot in the neighborhood is good to go, and we found one 3 blocks away from Wrigley, and only 1 block from D’Agostino’s. Kind of becoming a tradition, stopping there for slices either before or after the game… or both!
We had a little time to kill with rain falling at 1245pm. The first thing I wanted to check out was the new Cubs store. First stop, was to see the trophy… but it wouldn’t be that easy. There was a line… just to sign in. From there, they send you a text message when it’s your turn. Pretty cool system actually, and the 35 minute wait didn’t turn out to be a bad thing. Of course, I didn’t want to miss the start of the game, but with the rain, the start time was bumped back to 2:15. Perfect.
In the meantime, we wandered over to the jewelry section. 10k for one of those World Series rings! I asked the guy if I could try it on; figured I’d put it on, take a quick pic, you know, run out of the store…haha. OK, everything but that last part. He said no. He also said they’d be sold out of these rings by the end of next week. I guess there is no limit to the Cubs love…
As we headed to the main part of the store, it was obvious you needed to bring some dough regardless of what you were looking for. I told my wife I need about a grand in there. They had everything. I really like the gold jerseys, but we’re talking $200. Before the day was done, I did end up getting a $40 hat… the gold one with the trophy on the side that I will be debuting when I visit St. Louis for a Cubs Cards game in May. Of course my son was picking up everything; they have plenty of stuff for the kids too, let me tell you. A Jon Lester lego figure was the final choice, which only ran $15.

Then we got the text… We had already taken pictures by the Ron Santo and Ernie Banks rings on display, and of my son sitting in the big Rawlings glove. Now, it was time for the trophy. I didn’t hunt it down at many of its appearances during the off season, but man was I happy to finally see it. I held my son as my wife rapid fired away with the pictures. A classic picture for sure.
Oh yeah, then there was the game. As if people weren’t distracted enough coming to Wrigley… with all this new stuff…. and all the new stuff still to come like a hotel, blocking off the streets, etc. Only thing they need are some rides, and you have a Cubs Disneyworld. It’s pretty awesome. But, yeah, for me, it’s still about the game. Of course with my 5 year old and my wife, and with the temps dropping drastically after the rain delay, it was a short stay at the actual game.
Had pretty good seats… for cheap too. Only sat in them for a couple innings, as my son wanted to walk around, and then eventually leave after feeling the cold. So we did… in the 5th inning. What kind of father am I?
I put my family ahead of the Cubs… barely… haha. So I bite the bullet; I have been… for now. I think I’ll have to draw that line eventually… to teach my son. To teach him that we never leave any game early… ever. That’s how I roll. That’s how he’ll roll eventually. You never know what you may miss… like an Addison Russell walk off bomb. Yeah, it’s all good. A Cubs win equals a happy day, and that it was… that it was.

Sounds pretty damn cool. Looking forward to checking out the store and trophy, too. AWesome that the Cubs are World Series champs! Just as cool are all of the upgrades and enhancements being made to Wrigley, the baseball shrine! You cannot beat a Cubs game at Wrigley Field…anywhere! That store sounds like the Bhawks store, better be ready to drop a few if you need something. Not sure about leaving early, 5th inning? Hahaha…missed the Russell walk off bomb. Cubs Win, Cubs Win…holy cow! A sWeet come from behind W for the 2017 Cubs…more to come? You bet!
