April 20, 2016: Minnesota Thibs

posted in: Bulls | 1

Wednesday came with the announcement that Tom Thibodeau will become the Minnesota Timberwolves coach and president of basketball operations.  I’m happy for him.

It all worked out for him in the long run; we knew it would.  Now, with both titles, he doesn’t have to deal with dipshits like Gar and Pax disagreeing with his philosophy.  If we didn’t know at the time (I did), we definitely do know now the impact Thibs had on this Bulls team.  Now, he lands a sweet gig with an up and coming team in the Wolves.  Thibs isn’t stupid.  When he landed the Bulls job, we could be defined as the same way… even more along the way than Minnesota.  He is setting himself up to succeed.  In Chicago, the one thing you can’t plan for killed him… injuries.  Having your best player not play the better portion of 3 years was the main factor of his failure.

Was he perfect?  No, of course not.  The whole minutes argument, that Hoiberg fell into as well this year, is a valid one… to a point.  I think Thibs would benefit from a tad less… not much.  He played the guys he thought he had to play to win; that’s always a good strategy.  And it worked during the regular season.  In the playoffs, at the end of the day, it didn’t.  Even with some deep runs, at the end of the day, we couldn’t get over the hump called LeBum.  His last chance obviously, was his last year here.  Falling to them again was the last straw.  With the minutes reasoning in hand, coupled with not being able to get to the NBA Finals, coupled with not seeing eye to eye on some things, management had enough in their minds to move forward with letting him go.  Stupid, stupid move.

This whole thing just pisses me off.  Seeing him succeed in Minnesota, which he definitely will… the ultimate NBA title??? maybe, maybe not, but they will definitely be a playoff team come next year; I don’t care that it’s the Western Conference.  Bet on that OVER on the win total for next year, because they will get it.

It just pisses me off… again.  I’ve really never gotten over it, and now we get to see another ex-Chicago sports person do well somewhere else.  Doesn’t that happen a lot?  Letting someone go, or trading him, only to see them shine.  The Cardinals were just celebrating Lou Brock Day; do you think it was coincidence they did it when playing the Cubs?  If the Braves were of that same ilk, they would celebrate Greg Maddux Day when we played them.  How about Phil Jackson?  Yes, he did win his titles here, but left to win 5 more.  Mark Grace won a World Series title after leaving Chicago.  We’ll see if those ex-Blackhawk guys do anything with Dallas this year…. same with Forte with the Jets.  Marshall already had a pro bowl year since leaving.  I’m sure I could name about 20 more.

This one especially burns me.  If they asked experts around the league about their opinion of Thibs, I’m sure they would have heard what we all knew; that he was one of the best.  But no, they did not want to ask, because they did not want to hear.  They were the experts, and they had their minds made up… they even had a replacement lined up, who was waiting in the wings for years… waiting for the time when Bulls management had enough to move forward with parting ways.  Sure, they asked the players about Thibs, and got mixed reviews I’m sure.  But of course, they focused on the bad… the players who spoke out against him… they probably even asked in ways to extract this type of response from players; to be able to position it their way… to give them one more reason to fire him.

Yes, and now we will really see… as if last year’s Bulls season wasn’t bad enough.  I wouldn’t be surprised Noah went there…. maybe more of the boys.  I expect the Wolves to make the playoffs, and yes, they will have their humps to get over in the form of the Golden State Warriors for years to come.  But remember 2 of the last teams to beat Golden State at home over the past year and a half:  the Thibs Bulls and the Minnesota Timberwolves.  Good luck Tom.  We messed up, and now we have to sit back and watch you do well… while we flounder.  Got to love Gar and Pax; thanks guys, and thanks Mr. Loyal Owner of the Year for allowing this to take place; you are ALL at fault…. and now it’s payback time.
