Back in the UC on Saturday night for the Bulls vs Heat. I felt like after that game against the Clippers, after that big comeback win, the 50 points from DD, that the Bulls would have a little momentum; I guess I was wrong. The Heat were too hot for the Bulls, and cruised to an easy victory in front of the packed house. What a buzz kill…
It was a fun game to be at. It was Benny The Bull’s birthday! The original mascot of the NBA was celebrated all night long. They had the entire Benny family there, with all the different versions over the years. They even had “Da Bull” come back… didn’t even know he had an official name, but it was the teen wolf looking Benny who would do high flying dunks in the 90s. Yeah, he participated with the Elevators at half time, as we all rocked out to some 90s tunes. The famous songs that would be playing during the dynasty run at the Stadium, then the UC… that was good. The famous popcorn toss was cool too, with I believe 5 of them throwing popcorn all over that poor section. Actually, I should try to find seats in that section at some point in the future. Sure, Benny threw some popcorn at my son at the last game, but to be dumped on, by the entire bag… that would be fun. It was a festive mood, especially in the 300 level where we were sitting.
I love the 300 level. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great having better seats, sitting closer to the action, but… you lose something too. You lose the craziness that is the 300 level. I almost lost my voice screaming with my family and one of my son’s friends from school at each Heat player that took a free throw. We also reached out our hands, and wiggled our fingers each time the Bulls took one. I yelled at the referees, that’s always fun. When they called that foul on Ayo, and THEN changed it to a flagrant, I was about to start up the “Bull-Shit” chant. If it weren’t for my son and his friend, I would have. We had some guys talking loudly behind our left shoulders; it was a mix of Bulls and Heat fans. The visiting fans will get some lip up there, that’s for sure. Over the other shoulder, this one guy became increasingly louder as the game went on; I wonder why… haha. By the time the game was over, he was still cheering as loud as he could. I mean, yelling loudly when the Bulls made a shot, even though the result was already determined; I love it!
I don’t want to ever take for granted going to a game. Even when we had season tickets, we still valued each time we were able to watch a game; some people aren’t so lucky. My son’s friend… it was her first game; I know she had a blast. This made the game even more fun, to see a first timer enjoy the heck out of it. I was still preaching to her comeback in the 4th quarter… until about 5 minutes to go; I realized that it wasn’t going to happen. But, still… you’re there, cheer your asses off… get into the game, the experience… have a blast… I know we did.
The main reason for attendance on this evening was my son’s birthday eve. Yes, the next day, April 3, he would turn 10 years old. He got to pick out something for his birthday; the new Ayo shirt looks great on him. Like I said, we had a great time, I just wish the Bulls could have delivered. But, as we head down the stretch, we’ll hope that delivery of wins comes in the playoffs. Let’s just start those games already… Actually snagged some playoff tickets for the first home game on a presale last week; that’ll be awesome. Hope we get to see a win. Go Bulls!
