Alright, let’s step away from the Bulls Bucks series just for a minute. The baseball season is in full flow now across the league, including on both sides of town in Chicago. A combined 12-7 thus far, surely this is the year that the Cubs and Sox will meet in the World Series… don’t hold your breath.
Of course, I’m saying this mainly from the Cubs side. I’m surprised at the start thus far. A big part of it has been Seiya Suzuki; the dude looks legit. The reigning NL player of the week, Seiya has looked like he belongs thus far. His plate discipline is impressive. His ability to use the entire field, with power, has been really nice. His defense is good; his baserunning is fine. The Cubs may have lucked out with this one. Of course, we thought the same about Fukudome back in the day, although besides the fact that they are both Japanese, there’s really not a whole lot in common. Yes, Kosuke was all of those things early on… not as much power, not as many hits spread out across the diamond from my recollection. Besides the obvious righty vs lefty, Fukudome always pulled off the ball… Seiya seems to be pretty solid in his stance in the box. He doesn’t swing at junk either thus far. Of course, the book on him will get around the league. It will be how Seiya adjusts as the season goes on, something Kosuke could not do, that will determine if he really is a keeper. So far so good though…
But yeah, the Cubs with a winning record thus far; that won’t last… or will it? You have to think the Cubs will stick to their script of dumping guys, which means Willson will be gone soon; not sure if that includes Kyle or not. They’ll put their stock in guys like Wisdom and Schwindel. After a rough start, Patrick has came on nicely, including his first home run on Monday night vs Tampa. Frank went deep too. I don’t think these guys will sustain their success from last year either, but… time will tell. Could the Cubs possibly be better than I thought they would be? Not ready to believe that.
On the other side of town, the Sox are off to the start they expected. I think it was like the first time they had started 4-1 since 2005, you know, THAT year. We knew their offensive would be good; their pitching is still the question, especially when you see Lynn and Giolito on the DL, and Rodon dealing in Frisco. The other guy that concerns me is their All Star closer aka the tight rope walker. This is not a good way to go through the season. If he’s going to constantly put himself in danger in the 9th, this will not end well; I think he’s going to implode… and maybe not recover. Well, at least the Sox have another closer in Kimbrel they can put in when this happens… oh wait.
OK, had to check in on the diamond, and report that I won both my opening weeks in Fantasy Baseball… haha. Baseball is on its way… only about 150 or so to go… Now if only summer would make its way here soon… or at least spring. OK, back to the Bulls.
