Lead In: an introduction or preamble which allows one to move smoothly on to the next part of something. I had to look that up; yep, I’m using it right. The Cubs winning a Friday afternoon home game is the perfect lead in to the weekend.
Some weeks are longer than others. I know each and every week has 5 days between and including Monday and Friday. Yet, there are times when those 5 days average 20 hours a day vs a much better 16-18. 6 hours minimum. It starts off with 4 hours, then you try to get that average back up and sleep 7 hours in a night. Yes, and when that average doesn’t come up and those days stay long, the grind becomes tougher. Throw in a lot of work BS, and you feel that maybe stretching out that time away from work is worth it.
Most Cubs home stands that cover the weekend include a Friday afternoon game. It’s typically the only game on the schedule across the majors at that time. It’s that chance to bank a W before everybody else takes the field. It’s that chance to get one up, to grab control of that series. It’s that chance to give your fans exactly what they need after a tough week; starting that precious time away from work called the weekend on the right foot.

I had to untangle the Cubs flag flying in front of my house a few times. Felt like the siding of the house was going to start flying off. It helped the Cubs early in this one. JD called it when he said “maybe” after Len said that the Kris Bryant pop up would end the inning. It ended up falling between 4 Diamondbacks for a double and an early 2-0 lead. They never looked back. Hendricks was dealing. The starters must have that competition thing going again amongst themselves. Back to back to back shutout starts turned in by Quintana, Hamels, and Hendricks. This is more of what I expected to see from the rotation. Even the bullpen has been good, preserving the shutout in each of the past 3 games except for this one. I think the scoreless streak ended at 31 innings when Arizona scratched one across in the ninth. It ended in a W, that’s all that really matters.
Especially on this Friday, which was especially good. Flying that W flag for all those taking the red line past the Addison stop to see. I wish I had a view from my roof or something; only about 5 miles away. Maybe I need to change the Cubs flag to the W flag in front of my house after each victory; I have it…yeah, I need to get on the ball with that shit. It’s that Friday afternoon W that brings a smile to my face; one that was there most of this day off. Lots of plans for the weekend; I should get to bed now. Until next time…Go Cubs and thank you.
