April 18, 2017: Panic Room

posted in: Blackhawks | 1

A horrible first two games, followed by an up and down game that didn’t go our way, leads us to the panic room.  There’s nowhere else to go.

It’s a place I didn’t think I’d see… at least for a while. Game 3, first round, and I was already nervous before the game.  Again, too soon I thought.  Now it may be too late.  The Hawks will need to win 4 straight games to come back and win the series.  Any takers?

The Hawks took the lead in this one from an unlikely source as Rasmussen scored off a nice feed from Kruger; 16 had himself a nice game.  The Hawks scored the next goal as well with a vintage Kane lamp lighter.  Game in the bag?  You kind of felt like that for a second.  Kind of felt like the Hawks were back, and that the Preds were having deja vu.  Nope on both counts.

A fluke goal followed by a pretty clear case of interference of Crow forces this one to OT.  It was no match.  Crow kept us in it as long as he could.  The Preds kept coming and coming.  The Hawks had no response.  Now there’s only one thing left.

A series sweep would seem about right.  Hawks were jumped on from the get go, and just as they appeared to find themselves, the Preds poured on some more.  The standings tell us who the better team is; this playoff series doesn’t agree. If you had a bad feeling after the first game…if you were one of the many who felt it after the second game…you most certainly are sitting next to me in the panic room now.  It’s a sad place to be.

In this case, we’re not safe.  Only one more loss will allow us to finally breathe, to finally escape this Nashville choke hold.  We’re getting beat…handily.

There were some bad calls in this one I thought.  Non calls as Toews got slammed, or when Kruger got cross checked.  Fluke goals, like both of the ones in regulation for the Preds were a part of it.  Some good individual performances by the Hawks; Kruger, Crow, Seabs I thought all had solid games.  The one thing that stuck out to me was the face offs.

I know we were beat at the dot all night; I think those numbers have to be even worse in the offensive zone variety.  As the Preds bought themselves more and more chances as they won those face offs, the Hawks chances were left to little after failing to do the same.  It really seemed noticeable.

Just like the Preds dominance.  As the game went on, after feeling like we had this one, I slowly started to believe that we’d be lucky to hold on.  They didn’t stop; we did.  This one was a gut shot.

I’m still kind of in shock.  I’m tired as hell too.  I’m running out of faith.  I still have some, holding on to some fantasy seemingly…remembering the 3 Cups this team has won…thinking they were going to get number 4…not wanting to believe that quest is over for this year.

I don’t want to finish the obit quite yet for the 2016-17 Hawks.  Let me wait.  Let me dream.  Let me sit here in my panic room, sucking my thumb, waiting for this nightmare to be over.  I want to end this on some sort of positive note, so I’ll say this.  I do believe in miracles.  That’s what I got. That’s what it will take.  As always, Go Hawks!

Wow…shell shock for sure. No way did I think the Hawks would lose both at the UC and then game 3 in ot. Dont think anyone did, but here the Hawks sit. They looked good after 2 periods. Crow was locked in, Hawks scored twice to break the wall, and all was looking good. Then, the flukey puck off the glass behind the net right to a pred as Crow had no chance. Follow that up with an obvious goalie interference…yes I know, Crow was not in the crease, but the pred did not make accidental contact. He was untouched, drive-by style, ran into…elbow to the head. If that does not impede his ability to make a save, then I dont know what would. Incidental contact my ass. 2-2 going to ot and still felt confident. The preds would not stop, and on a nice play along the boards, snuck one past Crow…barely, twice. So sick. Is this series over? Sure seems like it. Yes, the Hawks have been here 3 times before…came back to win 1 while losing 2. This team is too talented to go out like this…no? Thought they wouldnt dig a 0-3 hole, either. Enough talking. Game 4 on Thursday will be a must win. Every game from here on out this series will be. Focus on game 4. Win it and come home for game 5. Win that and the preds feel some pressure. Focus Hawks. One timer for 4 times, please. If anybody could do it, the Hawks can. I believe in miracles, too…we witnessed one with the Cubs winning it all. I’m up for seeing another one! GO HAWKS!!!
