April 17, 2022: Playoff Sunday

It feels like forever ago since we’ve last seen the Bulls take the court. The anticipation for Game 1 against the Bucks has been building for an entire week. The anticipation for this playoff Sunday has technically been building for about 5 years. The Bulls are back in the playoffs people. On this Easter Sunday, some may say the Bulls have risen! If you listen to a lot of people, it will take a miracle for the Bulls to move on.

Talking to my brother yesterday at my parents’ house, where we gather every Holy Saturday to celebrate the end of Lent, he was telling me that everybody on ESPN picked the Bucks. Not only that, but most were picking a sweep, or 5 games at worst. I love to hear that. Yes, there’s the whole chip on your shoulder underdog mentality that I hope the Bulls have fully embraced in this week leading up to their impending doom against the defending champs. Then there’s the whole kiss of death that is sometimes delivered when every single person is picking you to win. It almost feels like this is a 1 vs 8 matchup… why are the Bulls even taking the court? They say that’s why you play the games…

I’m not ready to write them off. Sure, am I less confident about the Bulls chances of success in the playoffs today vs a few months ago? Yes. Do I still think they have a chance to do something? Yes. There was a time where I said, and truly felt, like the Bulls could hang with anybody in the East. Thinking about the toughest possible challenge for us in our conference, I think of the Sixers… not the Bucks; not like my opinion matters much. Not taking anything away from Milwaukee, but I just think Philly would present a bigger problem for us. So, there’s that… at least we’re not matched up against the Sixers. The Bucks are certainly a formidable opponent; I’m not so biased that I think the Bulls are going to kick their ass or anything. Yet, I do think it will be a series; I don’t see this ending in anything less than 6 games, but maybe that’s just me.

It’s been a minute for the Bulls, since they’ve played on this stage. If you couldn’t tell from my week’s worth of perspective, I’m hyped up! Forget what everybody says; it’s all about how the guys are feeling within that locker room. From the sounds of it, besides Tristan Thompson demanding the best from some of the guys, the Bulls have some quiet confidence. Flying under the radar… no pressure… nobody expects us to win anyways… shock the world type shit. Pump it into my veins.

Maybe what everybody thinks will happen; the Bucks will steamroll our Bulls. Maybe not… I damn sure am not going to give up before one game is played; I damn sure am not going to give up until this series is brought back to the UC. Like I said, I’m not going to give up until that final horn. So, here’s hoping for that Easter Miracle that nobody believes in. Let’s do this boys. GO BULLS!!!!
