April 17, 2017: Our Eight Seed

We’ve spent the last few nights feeling really bad about the 8 seed that’s been taking it to our 1 seed in the NHL playoffs.  Flip over to the NBA, and we have our eight seed taking on the one seed; it felt good to turn the tables.

We know exactly how the Celtics fans feel; we are living it.  And now, we’re happy to turn the tables, and savor our upset victory.  The Bulls beat the Celtics in Game 1; we are living in a strange world.

I didn’t watch any of it after the first five minutes.  We were making our second stop on this Easter Sunday, and they did not have cable.  No cable?!?!  That sounds ridiculous.  I’m not sure why.  Believe it or not, I grew up many years without cable.  I guess I was used to it at one point too.  But now?  There is no way that I wouldn’t have the channels to watch my teams play.  If there were only a few channels to have, those would be them.  So it was Chuck and Bill leading us through this one.  We listened to the game on the radio, just like the good old days, while I scarfed down more great food.

And when the last bite of ice cream was digested, the Bulls were closing the deal on their impressive victory.  I don’t think the Bulls have a chance in this series; does this one win change that?

I’m not going to answer that right now.  I’m not going to talk about all the negatives that this season held, and the situation that the Bulls franchise is still in.  No, tonight, it’s about enjoying a playoff victory.  I think we deserve to do that.  It’s ok.  We can be happy.

And I am.  Surprised and happy.  The Bulls out rebounded them 53-35; that’ll win a lot of games.  Not surprising that Butler had a big game; I wonder how the Celtics fans feel about that.

Were the Bulls really shopping Butler?  If so, did the Celtics not make a good enough offer?  Did the Celtics want him?  I’m sure they would have been happy to have him on the court for their playoff run.  A lot of good those draft picks are going to do this postseason.

Yes, Butler had help.  Portis…Bobby Fricking Portis!  Yes he did.  Listening to Hoiberg after the game, actually not sounding like an idiot…amazing what a win does, he said that he expected Bobby to play well in his first career playoff game.  I can say that I actually agree with him.  Mr. Bug Eyes just missed 20 points and a double double; it was quite the debut.

I really shouldn’t be that surprised.  This is what the Bulls have done all year.  They suck when we think they should be good, and they’re good when we think they should suck.

Based on that observation, I’m going to answer my original question like this:  I still don’t think the Bulls have a chance in this series.  Playing that reverse psychology card; I will ride it as long as I have to.

Because a playoff win is a playoff win.  It’s something to be proud of.  It’s something that should not be discounted based on other negatives.  These are the wins that give us a feeling of pride.  They give us hope.  Where will the Bulls go from here?  At this very moment, I don’t care.  Love the win.  Go Bulls!
