April 16, 2023: The Cup Quest

The NHL Playoffs are here; the Blackhawks are NOT a part of the proceedings. There is no play in game for the Stanley Cup Playoffs unfortunately, not like the Hawks would have been in those games anyways… Actually, I have an idea. Take the teams that didn’t make the playoffs and have a “loser’s bracket” to determine the draft order. Whoever wins the loser’s bracket, has the #1 pick, and so on… I guess that gives those teams who come up just short the best chance; that’s one way to eliminate tanking though… unless you really are that bad. Were the Hawks really that bad? I believe that there was a tanking component of it all; I don’t think they were bottom 3 team in the NHL bad. Don’t get me wrong… not far from it, just not THAT bad. Anyways…

There are 16 teams who ARE a part of the Cup quest. Who’s going to beat the Bruins? Certainly don’t want any team from Boston winning another championship, so hoping somebody does. Just the same way I go through who I don’t want winning, and wouldn’t mind winning in the NBA playoffs, we’ll do the same here. With that being said, go Florida! No, they’re not the team I want to win it all, but I wouldn’t mind, especially since that would mean the Bruins would be going home. The Maple Leafs were up there this year. They haven’t won a Cup in forever, and they have crazy fans, so… guess I wouldn’t mind them, but they do have a lot of Cups overall, so… Definitely don’t want the Lightning winning again; guess Carolina would be fine. The 3 teams from the New York area… the Rangers, Islanders, and Devils; if I had to choose one, I choose the team Patrick Kane and Bread Man play for. Don’t like rooting for New York teams typically, but… the Rangers… that would be fine.

How about in our neck of the woods, the Western Conference? Definitely no desire to see a repeat in Colorado; would love to see the Kraken make a run like the Golden Knights a few years back. Screw the Stars and Wild. Vegas, Edmonton, and the Kings can lose for all I care too. Winnipeg? They don’t bother me. Yet, if I had to choose one, it would be the Kraken.

So, yeah, a Rangers Kraken Stanley Cup Final; I would be perfectly fine with that. I don’t have the same type of negative emotions towards the NHL teams, in general, like I do with the NBA; I won’t be hating that hard. But yeah, just like no Lakers, no Bruins; no titles for LA or Boston… or NY for that matter, so I guess Go Kraken? Yeah, Go Kraken…. the miracle run to the Cup starts now. Meanwhile, the Hawks will keep their fingers crossed, and hope the NHL rigs the draft lottery, so this season of shit would all be worth it, and Bedard will wear the Indian Head sweater. Until we find that out, I’ll be keeping an eye on these playoffs as well… and maybe betting on them too… haha.
