April 11, 2016: Fresh Start

posted in: Blackhawks, Cubs | 1

It’s Monday.  I hate Mondays.  However, after the rough weekend that was in Chicago sports, I’m ready for a fresh start.  We do have some unfinished business to attend to… like the Bulls and the Warriors, but for now, let’s focus on the positive.

Let’s start with the Blackhawks.  Wednesday begins another Stanley Cup run.  How great is that?  The quest for the repeat starts again.  We couldn’t do it in 2011 or in 2014… although we got a lot closer.  Will we be able to accomplish this feat in 2016?  I don’t know, but I’m ready to find out.  Out of all our teams, if any team has earned the benefit of the doubt, it is definitely the Hawks.  The Blues wait for us… we’ve been here before.  I don’t like them… the hate will get cranked up pretty quickly for these guys too.  Just the fact that they share a city with the Cardinals makes me not like them.  By the way, with no basketball team and now no football team, St. Louis is showing what a great city they are.  I’d love to oust their hockey team, and watch their baseball team struggle.

The biggest question for me is Corey Crawford.  I’m expecting an energized Keith come Game 2, a pretty well rested Hossa and Kruger, and the return of Captain Clutch.  I expect the Kane and Russian line to be outstanding, and some new heroes to be made.  The biggest question mark is in goal.  Crow won a lot of games for us this year, and you know in the playoffs, we’ll need him to stand on his head a few more times.  Is he up to the challenge?  Is he 100% healthy?  We’ll find out pretty quickly.  Will Coach Q have a quick trigger with Darling in the case where Crow shows he is not 100% healthy?  Let’s go Hawks.  Let’s go Hawks.

That brings us to tonight… Opening Night for the Cubs.  The hype machine has returned from their season opening road trip with a 5-1 record.  They return to a new and improved Wrigley Field, with the original facade renewed, and a beautiful locker room for the players.  Have you seen that locker room?  Wow!  About damn time is all I gotta say.  I will hold my judgment on the outside of Wrigley until I see it in person, but it looks pretty decent.

More importantly, is the product on the field, which has been outstanding thus far.  Yeah, the Schwarby blow was a big one, but the Cubs cupboards are full.  Next man up has started early this year… hopefully not often.  I can’t wait for tonight.  Very excited about seeing the boys return to Wrigley to start the home portion of this season of promise.

So there.  I feel a little better.  You?  It’s Monday and I don’t care.  I’m bringing back the positivity, and putting aside the ill will and hate… at least for a day.  Where this week goes from here, it’s anybody’s guess.  But we’re starting in the right place… and hey, I even got my blog out same day!
