April 10, 2016: Rough Weekend

posted in: Bulls, Cubs | 1

I love the weekends. Who doesn’t?  I look forward to just about every weekend, and this one was no different. Yes, I did have some work to do around the house, but that didn’t matter. My wife wasn’t working, so we actually got 2 whole days together as a family. We took advantage and headed to Brookfield Zoo. The weather wasn’t so cooperative, but we made it work. A stop at Portillo’s after made it all better. It really was a great weekend. Now from the viewpoint of a die-hard Chicago sports fan, it was a much different story.

As I walked out of my office for the weekend on Friday afternoon, I read the news about Schwarber. Ouch!  I’ve already talked a bit about that. It really was a bad start to the weekend that would have an equally bad ending.

The Pacers won which meant the Bulls will miss the playoffs for the first time in eight years. We knew it was coming, but still sucks to see it official. It makes me mad about the entire season. I will delve into more detail in a couple days about how I really feel about this year’s Bulls team.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, the Warriors tied the 72 win mark, and still have a chance at 73.  I feel the hate running through my veins.  It’s hard to hate that actual team; it’s not like Kobe and the lakers did it, or worse LeBum and whoever’s team he was on. That hate would be more pure. No, this is more of a blind hate towards anyone breaking a Chicago record. Deal with it.  If you don’t understand, don’t worry…I’ll explain it in detail later this week. This could be the week of the Hate Files.

As the games ended on this Sunday night, I started my own with my son.  Grabbing the basketball and playing with him always cheers me up.  I was stealing it a bit more, blocking some more of his shots, and making some harder passes, but we still had some fun.  That’s how I wanted this rough weekend for a die hard to end.

Only a die hard sports fan will really get it. It’s hard to explain to others, including spouses, how that Schwarber injury or the Bulls record getting tied really feels. It hurts. It makes me angry.  This thing is a part of me.  I try to control it, but it is a passion of mine.  Will it ever change?

And now I pass this onto my son…maybe I shouldn’t. There’s much more to life than rooting for your teams, or so they say.  With family obviously first, there’s not much else that compares to this sickness..well, it feels like a sickness after a weekend like this. But we hold out for the next upswing in this crazy ride, and hold out for the next big win. We don’t have to wait long. Blackhawks playoffs begin Wednesday night.  And onwards we march…

The Bulls not making the playoffs is a joke. This team, as I have said before, reminds of the 2014 Bears under trestwoman. We know what that team earned in this blog…stay tuned I’m sure.
Gsw tying and most likely breaking the 96 Bulls record sucks. I do not hate them, either. Curry and klay are fine. Draymond can be annoying…one of those love to have and hate otherwise guys. Kerr is a former Bulls champion. Yet, I want gsw to lose, whether it be their last regular season game, somehow, to only tie the record, or in the playoffs. Any comparison to the 96 Bulls pisses me off. Glad to see Pip say sweep and chuck say Bulls in 5. We know the Bulls would whip their ass, but the comparisons will continue unless they lose, which is what I will be rooting for.
Blackhawks repeat run is here. Beard time!
