We pulled off a couple good April Fools jokes this year. Being the same day as Easter, we were all dressed up and ready to go. I told my son to yell up to my wife “Mom, I spilled milk on my shirt”. He did, and she yelled for me… and then he told her April Fools! I had a good one for him to tell his cousins. “I lost my first tooth today”. He did, and my sister was like “really!!??”. He said April Fools… 2 for 2 this year.
The worst one that was ever played against me had to do with my garage being on fire. My friend called me at work to sell that bill of goods. I bit at first, but as the trick went on, I wised up. Still, not bad…
What were the biggest times we were fools for our teams? How many times were we “fools” for our Cubbies? All the promising seasons… the season we had the best record in the majors and ended up getting swept out of the playoffs. Before that, when we were those famous 5 outs away. Yeah, I can talk comfortably about those times now. We were NOT fools believing in them when we were down 3-1 in the 2016 World Series.
When it comes to the Bulls, I think of one person: Derrick Rose. We were fools in believing he would return to himself after injury. I believed and believed… but it wasn’t meant to be. That was more of a sad story than anything.
The Blackhawks? What about this year? Keep watching them, hoping for them to make their move, to go on their streak and make the playoffs. Yeah, joke was on us.

How about the Sox? Maybe the joke was after 2005… to think that the Sox would follow up their championship season with another title. Yep, still waiting for that.
But when it comes to the biggest joke of them all, it has to go back to our Bears fandom, and the guy they called Cutler. When the news broke, I was ecstatic. We finally had a franchise QB. This guy would lead us to the promised land. How did we get so lucky? I remember that day clearly… sucker.
I don’t regret it though. I wanted to give him a chance, plus I always have a positive outlook.. at least until I’m shown differently. And after the Packer NFC Championship game, I was done. Still, if he had come back and led us to a Super Bowl win, I would forgive and forget. He never even led us back to the playoffs. Besides being the biggest joke of all on us Bears fans, he may be the ex-player that I despise the most.
But, just like the Cubs 2016 season washed away a lot of pain, I’m hoping the Trubisky era does the same for the Cutler years, and all those years since 1985. I hope that Mitch comes in a 2nd close on making me look like a fool… after all, draft night I was pissed. So in this case, I would welcome being made to look like a fool. It wouldn’t be the first, and it won’t be the last.

Fooled. Dont really remember any good april fools jokes, but I have played the fool many times in life, and not just sports wise…it happens. Oh well, being a fool for your sports team isnt the worst thing in the world. I mean, you have to believe and have faith until the end right? See the positive and hope for the best in these players and teams? Yep, been there, done that. Every year prior to 2016 for the Cubs. This year sure felt like one for the Bhawks. The whole drose and cutler eras for sure for the Bulls and Bears, respectively. The Super Bowl season for the Bears when Hester returned the opening kick in the Super Bowl comes to mind. Playing the fool happens, learn from it, and dont make that same mistake twice.
