I could do some research on the Bears coach and GM search, but for what? They’re going to pick whoever the hell they want anyways; I’ll read up on the winners then. About a year and a half ago, I did this for basketball: I picked my all-time team. If you missed it, here is the roster:
Starters: Oscar Robertson, Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Kevin Garnett, Hakeem Olajuwon.
Bench: Magic Johnson, John Stockton, Kobe Bryant, Stephen Curry, Scottie Pippen, Charles Barkley, Dennis Rodman, Dirk Nowitzki, Tim Duncan, Kareem Abdul Jabbar.
I went into detail behind all my picks in various blogs, but that’s the roster. So, since I finished this, I’ve been thinking about doing this for the other sports; football is up next. Since the Bears are home again watching the playoffs, it’s as good a time as any to pass the time. So in between the Bulls and Blackhawks updates, an occasional Cubs update as we wait for the season to begin, and once the Bears make a decision, we’ll start to build our all-time NFL team. Here we go.
In the NFL, there is one position that is the most important; this is the single greatest reason why the Bears haven’t won crap in forever. I’m talking about the QB of course. Not all the NFL championship/Super Bowl winners over the years have had a great one, but most of them have. For this one position, I have to take into account winning. So, to get started, I’m only going to look at QBs who have won multiple Super Bowls. This eliminates a lot of great ones, no doubt. Yet, for my all-time team, not only do I need a great individual QB, I need a guy that’s going to lead my team of great ones to multiple titles. Furthermore, I’m not going to go back to the pre-Super Bowl era; sorry Sid Luckman, the greatest Bears QB of all time. This person will NOT be him, nor any other QB who won NFL championships back in the day. First condition: multiple Super Bowl winner. This list is only 12 people long.

Initially a dosage of viagra generic brand thought about that 25 mg is usually recommended.Let’s start with the guys who have won 2. My favorite one out of that list is John Elway. Sorry Eli Manning, Jim Plunkett, Bart Starr, Big Ben, Bob Griese, Peyton Manning, and Roger Staubach. Elway was always one of my favorite QBs. The ability to scramble, along with the big time arm… Of course, he cemented his place in my heart with the Super Bowl victory over the Packers. Do that, I will love you forever… haha. I definitely thought about him being the guy, but… he did lose 3 Super Bowls. A losing record in the biggest game of all time… unfortunately, I can’t look past that. Plus, there are guys who have won more Super Bowls than just 2. If you noticed, the list of QBs who have won 2 Super Bowls includes 8 guys. This leaves only 4 guys that have won MORE than 2 Super Bowls. Yes, this is where I’m headed for my choice.
Terry Bradshaw, Joe Montana, Troy Aikman, and of course, Tom Brady are the 4 finalists for my all-time starting QB. Can you tell me what is different between these 4 guys? Yes, I know that Brady has won more Super Bowls than anybody, but that’s not what I’m getting at. It is about Brady though… He is the oddball out of this selection, because he is the only one who has LOST a Super Bowl; Tom Brady lost 3 Super Bowls. The other 3… a combined 11-0. That undefeated record in the big game has a nice ring to it, kind of like a certain basketball player that is 6-0 in the NBA Finals. Yes, bye Brady. I know you will be this guy on many folks’ lists; I can’t argue that. However, for MY team, I’m going with someone who is perfect when it matters most.
This brings us down to 3 guys. The easy guy to eliminate next is the guy who has won the least among them, and that’s Aikman with 3. That leaves Montana and Bradshaw, both a perfect 4-0 in Super Bowls remaining. I was thinking if I was going to do backups at each position too; if I was, this would be easier. But… I think I’m only going to do starters here, however, I do reserve the right to change my mind. With that being the case, there can only be 1 QB on my team. With that being said, the choice is clear.
The starting QB of my all-time NFL team is Joe Montana. Is there a little bias because I saw him play instead of Bradshaw? Sure. Did Bradshaw have a lot better defense through his years to help him? I think so, yes. Ever heard of the Steel Curtain? Nothing against the 49ers defense those years. To win a Super Bowl, multiple Super Bowls, you need some balance; you have to be good at multiple facets of the game. Did Montana dish out some pain to my Bears? Yes, yes he did, but in this case, I’m going to look past that. For my money, the QB to win one game… there is no better choice than Joe.
OK, there; I’ve started. The first piece of my all-time team. I think we’ll do this side of the ball first. However, will I use 2 RBs like I saw growing up, or 1 RB like I see today? Good question. However, when it comes to picking the guy that will line up in the backfield, whether with a partner or without, that is a no brainer. Let’s pick our RB next.
