The potential preview of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Bulls and Nets on Wednesday night at the UC was a very well played game… for 3 quarters. Problem is, there are 4 quarters in the game, and what Brooklyn did to the Bulls in the 3rd quarter of this one, turned a good game into a blowout, and they never looked back. I guess the Bulls were just a quarter off…
So what did we learn? Well, if Harden and Durant get going, that means trouble for the opposition. I’ve never been a big fan of Harden. It’s not so much his Peter Griffin-esque beard that I’m pretty sure is inhabited by a few small birds, it’s more the constant flopping around, hoping for every possible foul call. To me, that overshadows his game. He still does have game of course. His first step to the rim and step back three were working in this one; of course, he did get the foul calls too. One thing we learned was the bigger the game, the bigger the stakes, the more the officials will be involved in the outcome of the game. It seemed like a ton of ticky-tack fouls were called. When you lose by 26 points, it certainly wasn’t the deciding factor in the game, but… lesson learned.
Durant was really good. When you can rise up with someone right in your face and hit a jumper, that’s tough. I think that’s why the Bulls were running double teams at him. Only problem is, that lead to many open shooters all night long; this is not something we’re used to seeing from the Bulls. Maybe double teaming Durant wasn’t a good strategy? Another lesson learned? Out of everybody, Durant is going to get his; let’s stop the rest of the guys from scoring, like Patty Mills for example, who benefitted from many open looks. Of course I’m not even talking about Kyrie, who had an off night. There is a reason why the Nets were among the favorites in the East this year. I’m not saying we can’t beat them… we have… I’m just saying it’s going to be tough.

I’ll tell you what: I noticed it in this one. Surely with him on the floor, and Green for that matter, the Bulls defense would have been a lot better IMO. We can only hope if both teams meet in the postseason, both teams will be at 100%; this includes Patrick Williams for the Bulls too BTW. But, can’t count on that… just like the Nets can’t count on having Kyrie for home games… crazy.
Wednesday night was a punch in the face, frankly, in front of a frenzied crowd at the UC. Maybe this is what we needed? It doesn’t feel good, but we certainly won’t forget it. In fact, it’s better than losing by 1 point. Did you see the Nets whooping it up out there as they turned this game into a blowout? I did. I hope the Bulls did too; I hope they file that away under: until we meet again. Because IF we do meet again, it will be in the playoffs; I’d like to think things would be much different then. Still leading the East BTW… Go Bulls!!!
