The Bears are 2-0 since being officially eliminated from postseason contention after beating the crap out of the Giants at Soldier Field on Sunday afternoon. I guess I’m happy there are worse teams out there than us; it’s funny that we faced them in back to back weeks with Foles and Dalton at the helm respectively. But hey, a win is a win is a win, right?
I recently wrote about the importance of winning; I’ve talked about it many times. Number one, it’s always fun to win from a fan’s perspective. I know I’m not always the most realistic fan, but I do know that my teams can’t win it all every year. Thus, I will cherish every win I get… even if it’s winning when it doesn’t count in the standings. So what? Would you rather have lost these last 2 weeks? I wonder if we had our first round pick would we have tried harder to lose… Even if we did have it, and even if winning these games meant hurting our draft position, I still think winning is important, and for more reasons than just giving us fans a week of satisfaction.
Winning can change a locker room; I believe it. Sure, if half the roster is going to turn over between now and next year, maybe not so much. We’re anticipating a new coach… and our prized rookie QB didn’t play in either of these last 2 wins, but still. There are guys out there who WILL be back next year. And while losing teaches important lessons as well, besides the obvious “we suck”, winning is a learning experience too. Learning how to win games is a very important lesson, especially if you want to repeat that outcome. You just can’t expect to go out and take the field after losing game after game and win consistently. You have to work up to that, and although these last 2 Bears’ wins may feel hollow, they are not; that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Quinn will be back, and oh yeah, he just broke the Bears single season sack record held by THE Sackman Richard Dent; I was a little bummed by that, but very happy to see history happen. What a bounce back year from Quinn. Imagine THIS Quinn and a healthy Mack next year. Mooney had a nice game; he has to be that true #2 WR next year, assuming we sign a #1. There were positives to be taken from all of this; there always are.
But it is a bit of the Bears beating bad teams too… something that Nagy has been good at. Saw @ChiSportsDay post something on Twitter. Matt Nagy vs non playoff teams– 27-12 w/23.9 PPG; vs playoff teams… 7-18, 17.2 PPG. I’m not going to fact check it, because it feels right. The Bears have proven they are NOT the worst team of the bunch; they have also proven that they are nowhere near the best. Stuck in the middle… it feels like someone else will have to be brought in to help forge our way to the top.
But for now, let’s enjoy these Ws… let’s enjoy this last week of the season, and maybe one more win??? Heading into the offseason on a 3 game winning streak sounds OK… as long as that doesn’t change the things that need to happen. Bonus Week 18 coming up next; Bear Down!
