December 22, 2021: Down Time

posted in: Bears | 0

Have to wait until Sunday for the Bears game. Hawks and the NHL bumped up their winter break. Another Bulls game was cancelled; the one we were supposed to go to! The Cubs and MLB are locked out. What are we supposed to do with this down time we have? Well, this certainly provided some time to do any last minute Christmas stuff, including some wrapping of gifts, which is usually on me, which is usually left until this last minute. We ended up taking my son to see Santa; headed out to a nice lunch downtown. Watched some Christmas movies; drank some wine. It’s been nice.

A quick browse on Twitter brought me some topics that must have been due to this “down time”; couple of these hit near and dear to the current core of the Hate Files. First off, saw some takes about how Aaron Rodgers is the greatest QB of all time; this is false, obviously. Look, there is no denying that he is a great QB. Playing on our hated rivals combined with our futility at the QB position, many people must have stars in their eyes watching him play well… not me. I wonder if this is a similar reason why some Bears “fans” jumped on the Packers bandwagon years ago, during the Favre era. Some fans aren’t cut out for the long haul; some fans can’t take a little losing, and would rather jump to another team. So pick a local team that has a hall of fame QB; I guess taking the easy way out isn’t for me. Anyways, about this take… I could find plenty of QBs over the years that are better than A-Ron. Unfortunately, don’t have to look far to find one, possibly THE one. Yes, of course Tom Brady is better than him; duh. It sucks that I have been put in a position to cheer for Brady, like last year when the Bucs met the Packers in the NFC Championship game; a game that the so called greatest Rodgers has won only one time. I feel like I may be put in the same spot again, and again, I have no problem, no shame in cheering for Brady, at least for a game. But one Super Bowl ring for Rodgers? Hardly “all-time” stuff. And yes, of course this is a team game, but to be a great QB, to be one of the greatest, to be THE greatest, you need multiple Super Bowls; it’s just the way it goes with the NFL, with this position. Rodgers is down on that list; end of story.

Will he add another Super Bowl title to his resume? Maybe; God I hope not. If he does, then that certainly helps his case; it helps bump him up the list, but there’s that elite group of QBs with multiple rings; he would still have ways to go. Maybe he has many more years to play; whatever. For now, forget about the “big game”, how about just getting there? I will be firmly rooting against that to happen, whomever they play. Then there was another topic I saw…
