December 14, 2021: Stubborn

We all are, right? Stubborn to some extent, with certain things. Sometimes it’s good, maybe, but most times, you need to change things up to get through life; can’t always do things the same way… hold on to certain things, but be open to new things… your way isn’t always the right way… that’s a hard concept for a lot of people to grasp, including myself. Being stubborn can be the downfall… that’s kind of what I’m thinking is happening with Nagy and the Bears.

One carry the entire 2nd half? One rushing attempt, when we were doing OK? Unfortunately, it’s not surprising any longer. Why does Nagy always seem like he just wants to get back to passing the ball? Like he wants to show off what a smart guy he is… like he can do it better than everybody else. Newsflash Nagy: it ain’t working. Stick to what IS working. If the defense is going to give us the run, take it, and take it, and take it, until they stop us. Oh yeah, and running the ball successfully not only protects your rookie QB, but it SETS UP THE PASS!!! Nagy just never seemed to be too interested in running the ball. Remember when he “threw us that bone” and lined up in the wishbone to start that one game against the Packers? Yeah, we got a bunch of yards… and never did it again… go figure.

Take a look at what happened that Monday night game Patriots at Bills. Now I do not like Belicheat, and can’t stand all the Patriots’ success (although my memory of them is always 46-10 baby), but what he/they did in that game was brilliant. F what everybody thinks. F what you really want to do. Do what works; do what is going to get you the W! THIS should be the ultimate goal every, single, week. It just feels like Nagy puts other things ahead of doing everything possible to get the win each week, let alone not being able to make adjustments for shit. I can’t really remember a Bears head coach that did do that well; I remember Lovie was notorious for not making them either… a certain Super Bowl comes to mind. I think this will eventually be the downfall for Nagy.

Everybody talks about the 4th and inches on Sunday night, when Nagy made the dumb decision to punt, and how that’s kind of his trademark… I’m going to go one further. 2nd, 3rd, or 4th and short…. Bears line up in a running formation, then break out into 5 wide empty backfield… that’s what I think of… Dumb, just super dumb. No intention to run the ball, at least give the impression that running to gain 1 yard is an option. Another aggravating thing is that our offense is SO predictable. Besides knowing Nagy wants to pass the ball most times, when we DO run the ball, they know it’s coming… at least that’s how I see it. Figuring out how to run when the D is thinking pass, and pass when the D is thinking run, is another art that Bears coaches have not mastered. I guess you can say we consistently get outcoached… I think that statement is right…

It’s much more than that, as it usually is, but this is a big piece, and I do thing Nagy is coaching his last few games with the Bears; hopefully the next couple levels up head out with him, but… lucky for us, the Bears will make another national TV appearance next week on Monday night vs the Vikings. Great… just great… everybody gets to talk about our disappointing season again…
