November 23, 2021: Flaming Out

posted in: Blackhawks | 0

I looked at the clock as the 3rd period ticked down and the score was tied 2-2 between the Blackhawks and the Flames. I thought, hey, at least we’ll get 1 point if the game goes to OT, which wouldn’t be bad, considering it was the last game of the road trip, considering Calgary is one of the best teams in the league. Well, it wasn’t meant to be. After a tough goal deflecting off Seth Jones’ stick, the Flames ended up winning 5-2. Still, 5 out of 7, 10 points out of a possible 14 since Colliton was shown the door ain’t half bad. With only 63 games left to play, the Blackhawks sit a mere 7 points out of a wild card spot; too early?

I’m happy they’ve seemed to turn things around. Although I’m not sure how long this will last, and if this turn around will lead to a playoff spot like we had hoped before the season started, it sure as hell is better than where we started the season. Ticket prices are still pretty reasonable. Definitely want to get over there and see them. I am familiar with most guys on the current roster, but yesterday, I saw somebody that I didn’t know: Reese Johnson. Let’s get to know him a little bit…

He did play 5 games with the Hawks last year; swear I don’t recall that. He didn’t get on the scoresheet, but he did play almost 8 minutes per game in those 5 games. Anyways, he DID get on the scoresheet in Calgary, for the first time in his career, with both an assist and a goal. In his 11 games this year, he’s averaged about 10 minutes per game; maybe I was getting him confused with the other “Johnson” on our roster… the guy we got from Tampa Bay. They are both right handed; they do both play center. Give me a break, huh? Reese is a bit taller than Tyler, like by 5 inches. At 6’1″, 193 lbs, Reese is 23 years old. He actually went undrafted. He’s played 76 games with the Rockford Ice Hogs over the past few seasons, so I guess we cay say he’s homegrown. Will he stick on the Blackhawks roster? Who else is on this roster that I don’t know? Henrik Borgstrom, who had played with the Panthers, and was signed as a free agent this year to a 2 year deal, is another dude I don’t know. Everybody else I’ve heard of…

The Hawks play next on Friday, at the UC, at 2:30pm, against the Blues; that would be a good game to go to, except I usually work that day. Let everybody else take off, come on in, and get everybody who does come to work on that Friday after Thanksgiving some pizzas! I could eat pizza for every meal, every day… seriously. Anyways, hopeful for the rest of the year with the guys, definitely more than I can say for the team that will be playing on Thanksgiving… at least for the rest of THIS year…
