November 17, 2021: The Great Pacific Northwest

I never got up that way. I lived out in California for about 5 years. I did make the trip up the 1 all the way from Los Angeles to San Francisco; that was beautiful. We talked about going all the way up to Vancouver, but that is quite the haul. When I saw the Bulls and Blackhawks matchups on Wednesday night, I thought how cool it would have been to see my teams play in these locations. It kind of sucks they were both on the same night. If they could have been on consecutive nights instead, certainly fans could have done both. With only a 2.5 hour drive between Seattle and Portland, it would have made for a really cool road trip. I can just imagine that drive between those cities… I’m sure it’s beautiful up there in the Great Pacific Northwest. I’ll get up there one day…

For this night, I would be watching both from the comfort of my couch, in front of my 65 inch TV; that ain’t so bad either. Still, I had to be quick with the remote to try to catch as much of both games as possible. Of course, the Bulls have been kicking ass. They’ve looked great this year thus far, and as I checked in with them in the 1st quarter, it looked like more of the same. DeRozan automatic from mid range; Lavine hitting some treys in rhythm. The Bulls built up a huge lead in the first half, and headed to the locker room up 15 points. Feeling good there. As I flipped to the Blackhawks, I saw a beautiful tic-tac-toe goal from Kane to Cat to Jones. These are the Blackhawks I expected to see this season. As DeBrincat added another sweet goal in the 2nd period, the Blackhawks seemed on their way as well.

Back to the Hawks game for a minute… the question came up about Patrick Kane, and where he ranks in the list of all-time Blackhawks. Normally I wouldn’t care what the TNT broadcast crew thought, but Eddie O was on the call tonight, and yeah, he knows a little bit about us. When he said he thinks Kane will be the greatest Blackhawk of all time, I was like… wow. Hmmm… I’ll need to think about that a little more. I mean, Hull, Mikita, Esposito, Savard… some horses there. Looking at the numbers as they said, Kane is already up there in the big categories, and still has multiple years to go? And oh yeah, the 3 Cups don’t hurt, and a Stanley Cup game winning goal in 2010… Wow. Maybe…

I must have been dreaming about that trip to Oregon and Washington, as I slowly faded away, missing the end of both games. The last I remembered was Portland making a run to get the game close. Well, they didn’t stop there. The Blazers came all the way back to beat the Bulls; don’t have many more details then that. Sure, tough loss, but with a win against Denver in the last game of the road trip, I’d still feel pretty good. The Hawks on the other hand, ended up winning their 4th straight, and Brinsky Cat got in a fight!?!?! We’ll take it. Are the Blackhawks finally starting to live up to their pre-season expectations?

I thought I was dreaming about that drive on the 5 between Portland and Seattle, but instead, I dreamt about Vegas… weird. I dream a lot about Las Vegas. We were in a big room, like a conference room, and as I looked around, I saw all these people I knew… not sure what all that means, but… unfortunately, I didn’t see a winning Bulls or Blackhawks ticket in my hand. Hopefully, they’ll keep winning, and maybe, I can grab one of those tickets… Let’s go boys!!!
