October 25, 2021: Keeping with the Theme

So yeah, about that Bears game, and forgetting about it… So much for the Blackhawks helping us in that department. Keeping with the theme of the day, the Hawks gave us something else to forget about: a loss to the Red Wings at home bringing their record to 0-5-1 for the season.

With the Red Wings scoring first, and repeatedly after the Hawks tied it at 1, I saw something on Twitter that I couldn’t believe. This is the longest the Blackhawks have gone into a season without having a lead. Yeah, F-d up huh? That’s 360 plus minutes. In fact, they now own the NHL record. You’ve got to be kidding me… We can’t even feel good for a minute… Always even or trailing… welcome to the 2021-2022 Blackhawks season.

This was supposed to be a good year. With all the moves the Hawks made over the offseason, the return of Toews, the return of fans to the UC, the return of the correct divisions, the return of some sort of normalcy while still dealing with COVID. Yeah, with the last 2 standing from the Cup era (feels like forever ago right?) surrounded by some high profile acquisitions, and some up and coming young talent… certainly nobody expected THIS start. It’s pretty disappointing.

What is the answer? Play better? As we’ve discussed, everybody is calling for Colliton’s head; I wasn’t, but at this point, I’m up for anything. When is enough enough? We can ask the same question of Nagy with the Bears, another guy that I wasn’t ready to discard, although again, I’m up for anything. Roll out the historic bad starts of NHL teams and how many recovered to make the playoffs. Do we still have a chance? Will it just “work itself out”? Does more drastic action need to take place? Not a fun situation to be in, but one of the guys, Bowman, should have been gone already, before he made his “last stand” with the busy offseason.

Surely the trusty dusty dynamic duo will be here until they retire, right? Toews actually broke his cherry in this one, getting his first 2 assists of the year; he still has zero goals. Kane currently leads the team with 5 points thus far, including only 1 goal. But never will we have to see 19 & 88 in another sweater, right? Am I still up for anything? Ugh… How about our prized goalie we pulled out of retirement to start between the pipes for us? Yeah, I know he hasn’t been great, but with the defense in front of him, it’s tough to blame him too much. And yeah, about that defense… is it talent, effort, scheme? I know the least about hockey out of the 4 majors, but can still know a fair amount; I don’t know what to do honestly. Fire Colliton seems like pushing that “easy button”, but is he really the problem? Like I said, surely that would provide a spark, but would that only be temporary?

Back at it Wednesday night at home vs the Maple Leafs. Can’t get back on the ice soon enough. Trying to wash this taste out of our mouths; getting one victory would be a start. Anything is better than being booed off our home ice…
