I root for my teams, and my teams only. I live and die with them. I will talk crap about other people and how they fan, but… at the end of the day, it’s a personal preference.
Let’s take the whole Cubs Sox thing. I know people that root for both teams, who genuinely want both the Cubs and the Sox to do good. Of course, when they meet, you have to choose a side, but for every other game, you root for both. That’s fine; I don’t have an issue with that. It’s not for me, but whatever. I used to like the Sox when I was a kid; I used to like both teams. As I grew up, I gravitated towards the Cubs; being able to watch them on TV was a huge part of that. I can only imagine kids nowadays that don’t have the Marquee network and how that will impact their fandom… But for me, it starts and ends with the Cubs. Yes, I love Chicago, and I wouldn’t root for another team over a Chicago team, but that doesn’t mean I’ll root for the Sox; I always say I won’t root against them… at least not publicly. I always tell my son: you can like another team, just not more than OUR teams. I WILL tell him how to fan, as long as I can, which is forever… haha, but just like anybody else, he’ll be able to make up his own mind on that at some point. And whatever he chooses to do, then so be it… as long as he ain’t a Packers fan, we’re good.
