It’s the first Sunday of football season, so obviously I will be talking… baseball! Hey, let me sneak one more in before the madness of Bears season starts later tonight in LA. And here’s hoping this title will not be appropriate for our Bears after their season opening performance. Football can wait, at least another 12 hours…
The Chicago Dogs… heard of them? Well, they are a baseball team that plays in Rosemont. They have really cool uniforms and a relatively new stadium in the middle of all the new stuff out there in this Chicago neighboring suburb. They have been sending me emails all season long about getting out to a game, and finally, I broke down; I was happy I did. I have to confess, the real reason I finally broke down was because of the Elvis show that would take place both before and after the game; my wife was all in for that one, and you know what they say… happy wife means… That plus, throw in a fireworks show and it was a go; oh yeah, this was a playoff game as well.
So I jumped on the website, and after confirming another attendee with my nephew, I found tickets to be a great value; $12 per ticket for front row seats. Throw in $3 parking, and that’s the start of a very reasonable evening. Of course the food prices weren’t great, and unfortunately the food we had wasn’t the best, and a trip to the gift shop was very profitable for the Dogs, but hey, can’t have it all, right? Well, we did pretty much have it all on this evening.

In the bottom of the 4th inning, they got dressed up in little sumo outfits and faced off on the field in a battle to the death… haha. It was a best of 3 who can push who out of the circle. The first one went to my nephew in dominant fashion; the second went to my son in a hard fought battle. This setup the 3rd and final match; my son used my nephew’s strength against him, side stepped him, and pushed him down for the win. The best part about it… as they walked off the field to cheers, they high fived each other; pretty cool.
Oh yeah, and there’s more. We were approached about ANOTHER promotion. This time it was the “best seats in the house” promotion; of course we accepted this as well, and ended up with the “best seats in the house”. We were sitting on two couches right next to the dugout, right next to home plate; it was fricking awesome. It didn’t come totally free; I had to interview on the big screen and answer two questions. The first was easy; it WAS my first time at a game. The second was easy, but… when I said I liked Ketchup on my Hot Dogs, I was greeted with some boos; there were a few cheers in there, but you know, a true Chicagoan doesn’t put ketchup on their hot dogs; I think this may be one of the only ways I fall outside of that description… haha.
Yeah, it was an absolute blast, and oh yeah the Dogs won. The Elvis impersonator, who just turned 21, was awesome; my wife enjoyed that very much, while the boys had fun with each other all night. It was a very nice night at the ballpark; I can definitely see coming back. OK, now it’s time to focus on football right? Well, my son’s first fall league baseball game is in a few hours, so not quite yet… although we have already reviewed and confirmed our fantasy lineups, so…
