Thursday was one of the best days of the year for Fantasy Football; it was our auction draft. This is our “big money” league, if you consider $50 to be big money… This is the league I actually won last year, by 0.6 pts in the championship game, thanks to Alvin Kamara and his 6 TDs. Yeah, after that happened, I tried my best to screw things up, making every single wrong roster move I could make that lead to needing a late fumble/INT in the Sunday afternoon games to pull it out. Whew! I would have been pissed…
So of course the guy I was going to spend big money on was Alvin, $60 to be exact. In my opinion, he’s right behind McCaffrey in the RB rankings. Money well spent, even if it was paying for past performance a bit… Kamara is usually a guy I try to get. The next big spend was on the best TE in the league; this is undisputed right? My son was pushing me to get him, and I did; welcome to the Sleeping Dogs Travis Kelce. So half my money was gone, but I had 2 primo guys; I was good.
I couldn’t get a top WR, so I had to settle for Aiyuk and Lamb. Aiyuk was squarely on my wish list. Lamb was too, but… he’s a Cowboy, and I generally don’t draft anybody from the most overrated team in the league every year. But, since I didn’t have a “top WR”, I grabbed him… paid a little bit more than I wanted, but that’s the name of the game, right? Miles Sanders is my 2nd RB, another guy that I really wanted. The whole dimensions of that Eagles offense change with Hurts at the helm; looking for a big year from Miles.

I had a bad feeling that I was going to get into a bidding war for him; I was right. I didn’t want to spend more than $10 on Herbert, but… I really wanted him… and ended up spending double that to get him. Yes, it did hamstring me for the rest of the draft, but let me tell you… I’d much rather be sitting here writing about how I overpaid to get my guy instead of wishing I had went one more dollar. I think this kid is going to be great, especially with a new coaching staff and a really good OL. He better be… I have him in all 3 of my leagues.
3 leagues? What a nerd… haha. Yeah, we started a “family league” which gave my son his first ever fantasy team, along with his cousins. My dad is in that one too, an old rookie…. haha. That was a fun draft last weekend; this one was good too. One more to go, the keeper league. That took a little bit different type of research and strategy; looking forward to that one next week.
The reason I’m not naming everybody else I drafted on Thursday night is because there is nobody else notable… haha. Yes, I’m a bit top heavy, not a lot of depth, but that’s what the waiver wire is for. All good. I did get my one Bear in TE Cole Kmet. Really looking forward to this season…
