August 18, 2021: Celebrate

Celebrate good times, come on… The Cubs won again!!! Twice actually. Forgot how that felt. 12 in a row on the wrong side. I always say winning cures all… not so much in this case, but I cannot deny, it does feel good.

Hendricks pitched us to the first win over the Reds in the middle game of the series. If there’s been one guy through it all that has been there, it’s been Kyle. Sure, he had his rough start this year, but he’s bounced back to his regular self, absolutely being that #1 pitcher that the Cubs need in their starting rotation. Actually, he’s been the only consistent person in that rotation; I wonder why we weren’t doing that great… Yep, it was Kyle or bust pretty much. He was the streak stopper in this case, and boy did we need it. I just hope the Cubs can add sooner than later, like this offseason, to build a good team that Kyle can be a part of. He deserves it.

In the rubber game of the series, it was Adrian Sampson… you know, Ralph’s boy. Nah, just kidding, but the kid pitched pretty well. Actually, Manuel Rodriguez got the win, since Sampson only went 4. But funny enough, it was the Cubs offense in this one, scoring 5 runs in the first 2 innings. I never knew who Frank Schwindel until a couple weeks ago; the dude is red hot. I’ve actually put him on my watch list for fantasy baseball. Down the stretch, always looking for hot hitters; he certainly has been that. And what about Michael Hermosillo? Just called up, and bam… big time home run. All these names I’ve mentioned in this paragraph are ones that I’ve just learned. It’s the new generation of Cubs… what a blast…

How do you get rid of all 3 of them? First off, the Cubs have money; they had enough money to keep all 3 of them… but we kind of knew that wasn’t going to happen. We had prepared for 1 of them leaving. The question was always, which 2 would you keep if we had to let 1 go. When Rizzo was the first domino to fall, with him being first, you kind of saw that snowball rolling down hill. Baez was the next big name; that left KB. So we couldn’t keep all 3; fine. We couldn’t even keep 2 of them; whatever. Surely we’ll keep one guy to build around… nope. So you take 3 all stars and dump them all? Management 101 I guess…

Sorry, I can’t get over that… at least not yet… maybe not ever. At this point I probably sound like a whiny bitch, but it really is bullshit you know. But, we, have, to, turn, the, page, right? Get your Frank Schwindel jerseys; pickup that Hermosillo bobblehead. Get your Ortega shirt. This is what we’re left with…

And yes, all guys have to start off somewhere; maybe there are a couple keepers in this hodge podge that is left on the north side… who knows. I do know that winning feels good, and that this 2 game winning streak feels like 20 in a row after what we’ve been through. I’ll try to keep this streak alive as I take my son to Wrigley for probably the last time this year on Friday against the Royals. Zach Davies on the mound; what a joy… has to be better than the guy we saw in person more than anybody a couple years back, Tyler Chatwood. Maybe Zach can deliver that no hitter I’m wanting to see in person… ok, ok… I’m not drinking yet… Go Cubs…
