It’s been 16 days since Black Friday, and guess what, it ain’t much better. Yes, we have the Bears, and I am fully counting on them to pull me out of this rut I’m in, but that’s still a few weeks away. The baseball season has been completely ruined for me, and I LOVE baseball. Once the Cubs forcefully flushed the season down the toilet, it’s been brutal… until Saturday night.
I love no hitters. Honestly, it doesn’t even matter what team… OK, maybe not the Cardinals, but really, any guy about to throw a no-hitter, I’m all in. I even got some enjoyment from the Sox guys that threw no-hitters over the years, like Buehrle, Humber, Giolito… Of course, the no hitter is coincidentally tied to the downfall of the Cubs this year. It was the last game before an 11 game losing streak, which was the prelude of the massacre. By the way, the Cubs are 10-33, something like that since the combined no-hitter in LA; after Sunday’s loss, they now have their 2nd 11 game losing streak of the year… I’m so proud. Hey… I was trying to cheer myself up here…
When I saw that there was a guy 3 outs away from a no hitter, I got excited. My son was in bed, but I kept him up, flipping the game on my phone, to watch the 9th inning. We could be watching history. Oh yeah, and this guy, Tyler Gilbert, was making his first career start!!! There are Hall of Famers who have never thrown a no hitter, and here is this guy, in his first start ever, on the brink of history?!?! This is why I love baseball. Plus, they were showing this guy’s dad in the crowd. I couldn’t even imagine. I was telling my son, if that was him on the mound, and that was me in the stands, I wouldn’t be able to hold it together. I love no hitters; did I mention that already? Yeah, they are awesome. I hope one day I could be there in person to witness one. Preferably, I’d like to see a Cubs pitcher do it, but I’d take the opponent; whatever it takes. One thing on my bucket list in sports: to witness a no hitter in person. For now, I’ll have to settle for watching another one play out on TV… it was still really, really good. The same can’t be said for the Cubs season, which is currently that burning dumpster you see rolling down the mountain… back to reality…
