It’s hard not to get emotional about these Cubs. These Cubs are like none that we’ve ever seen play. These Cubs brought us something that we’ve never had. It’s these same Cubs that we will be saying goodbye to this week, right? Well, they’re not gone yet…
It was fun seeing Baez, Bryant, and Rizzo all go deep over the weekend series vs the Dbacks. I’m going to miss that. Rizzo went deep again on Monday night at Wrigley in the series opener against the Reds, but it was Baez who brought us the biggest moment of the evening. There were a few big moments. Thompson getting out of a bases loaded jam; Kimbrel striking out the side in the top of the 9th. I thought it was going to be Bote who would win it for us in the bottom of the 9th; he hit one to the track, but it wasn’t enough. That’s OK, because the Reds bullpen loaded the bases without giving up a hit; don’t you just hate that shit? Well, when you’re on the receiving end of that goodness, you’re not complaining. That brought Reds manager David Bell out of the dugout to summon Amir Garrett out of the bullpen. Our David countered with pinch hitter Javy Baez. Yes! The matchup we’ve been waiting to see!

We did get Javy talking shit to him as he got into the batter’s box, but it only took one pitch for Javy to hit one to deep center to bring in the game winning run. I don’t know… I was hoping for a 3-2 count, followed by some foul balls before Javy hit one on to Waveland for the game winning grand slam. It’s all good… a win is a win. Javy was pumped man. If he did that to anybody else, the theatrics after the game winning hit, I would have talked crap, but… if anybody had that coming to him, it was Garrett. Running his damn mouth while pitching like absolute shit most of the year, he got what was coming to him. And who better to feed it to him than Javy… Earlier in the morning, Javy hobbled to a kids baseball camp with his heel injury talking about how his heart will always be in Chicago regardless of what happens this week. Well, Javy, the feeling is mutual. No matter how much shit I talk when you bounce one to Rizzo or swing at a pitch no major leaguer can hit, I still love you; I always will.
Same goes for all the 2016 boys. I know I’ve been talking about it a lot lately, but it’s been on my mind; how can it not be? Another guy was moved tonight. Andrew Chafin was sent to the Oakland Athletics; I really liked that guy, but I’m not heartbroken about him. However, it’s just the latest move; still waiting for THE move, or moves… In the meantime though, I’m going to enjoy the heck out of this win; fly the damn W. Go Cubs!
