July 9, 2021: The Ex-Bull Effect

posted in: Bulls | 0

So how are you enjoying the NBA Finals? I’m asking you, because I haven’t seen any of the games thus far. After the first 2 games in Phoenix, the Suns were up 2-0 in the series. I don’t have any problems with the Suns winning… or do I???

OK, one problem… Cameron Payne. You remember him don’t you? The driver of the tank during a couple brutal years for the Bulls. That guy flat out sucked, but now??? He’s doing pretty decent for the Suns, who are now on the biggest stage. How the heck does that happen? Well, Jim Boylen WAS the coach of the Bulls during Payne’s tenure, so… coaching maybe? I will say this. I really like the coach of the Suns, Monty Williams. Coaching isn’t everything, it isn’t the most important thing, but it is something… it is important, and the Suns have a great one on their bench.

What about their opponent, the Milwaukee Bucks? I don’t have any problems with them do I? Well, sort of. I love Giannis; I think he’s a great player and would not mind for one minute seeing him win a title, but… there is the ex-Bull effect on that team as well in the form of Bobby Portis. I didn’t have any real issues with him, besides the fact that he punched his teammates’ lights out during a practice; that was, um, wrong. And because of that, I had no issue with the Bulls showing him the door, but… before that happened, I was a fan. I loved the crazy eyes and the hustle; he fit in just fine here in Chicago before he lost it. I’m definitely more befuddled, confused, and upset about the first ex-Bull I mentioned above than Bobby. But… there is the whole geography thing, with the Bucks being located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and many of their fans being Packer fans and all… showing up to their games, cheering them on, chugging beers… Yeah, that kind of makes me want to throw up in my mouth, but…

I’m OK with either team winning it all. There’s the whole Chris Paul thing, which I really could give two shits about. I do like Devin Booker though. Whatever, Suns, Bucks, it doesn’t matter to me. As long as it isn’t the self proclaimed king winning another title, or the newest version of a “super team”, I’m good. In fact, I guess I will lean Suns here, only because they have never won an NBA title. I fondly, fondly remember the last time they made it this far. Ah yes, 1993 was a great year in NBA history. I still vividly remember many moments during that series, even the 3OT game we lost along with the other double nickel game and of course the Paxson shot. I liked Charles Barkley, and in fact, the entire Suns team was likeable… not during that actual series, when I was talking trash about every single one of them, but in general. Glad to see them back in there; hope to see them win. The Bucks already have their one NBA title from 1974 which seems like enough to me…

I probably won’t be tuning in, except the clinching game, where I’ll probably watch the end. Good luck to both teams. I’ll be keeping an eye on it, just like I’ll be watching Team USA dominate the competition in pre-Olympic play… right?
