It was a chilly, heck, cold, Friday afternoon in Chicago. I thought I could walk around downtown without my jacket; glad I had a hoodie on. It’s still a ghost town down there; I don’t know, maybe 10% of the people that would typically be there. It’s depressing. You know how you go to other smaller cities, and walk around their downtown; it’s kinda like that. This isn’t the Chicago that I know and love. Sure, all of the buildings are still there, plenty of new ones added over the years, but the people… where the hell are all the people? Working from home, and because so many folks are working from home, why do the businesses, especially the restaurants need to be open? Thank God for Luke’s… although I bring my lunch most days anyways.
Checking in on the score of the Cubs game, I saw it was 1-0; yeah, I was not working from home on this Friday, so I didn’t get to watch it, although I do have a new streaming service where I can watch any game I want; it’s prettay, prettay great. Nah, today I was running around, doing some last minute Mother’s Day stuff. Of course the most crowded aisle in Walgreens was the card aisle; one of the ladies agreed with me that we should be in the Dollar Store instead. I took care of my business and got the heck out of dodge. On the drive home, the Cubs were up 3-0; this Friday afternoon game against the Pirates was doing exactly how it should go, easy peasy.
I really like Ron Coomer as well. Pat Hughes is a given; hall of fame no doubt, but Coomer holds his own. Sure, it’s not Santo, the biggest homer ever… loved him. Coomer has some really good stuff though; he shoots it pretty straight, of course trying to always keep that positive Cubs fan attitude. I loved the other day when he was talking crap about the Reds complaining in the 9th inning about called 3rd strikes when Kimbrel shut the door. While I still decide about Boog, with Hughes, Coomer, and JD, we’re pretty solid; I’ll keep you posted about the other guy… guys I guess. Why does Marquee continue to have other people in the booth again?

Plus it’s the gift that keeps on giving, nah, no Ian Happ, Brian Urlacher, Ryne Sandberg path for me. F it… my head is not that deformed. So yeah, got home and 3-2 in the 9th; wtf? Kimbrel taking us on a ride again? No, Kimbrel was nowhere to be found. Well, since he just pitched yest… wait, the Cubs didn’t play on Thursday. Well, he must be hurt then? I hope not, or maybe I hope so, because why the hell wasn’t he in there then? Anyways, it was Tepera and after giving up 2 runs, only getting 2 outs, and leaving a guy on first, it was Brothers turn. After a bloop hit, he hit a guy, and now, we’re sitting with the bases loaded, 2 outs, only up 1 run; so much for this walk in the park.
Brothers got the last guy to pop out, if he didn’t, I wouldn’t be talking about it, because I’m not a very good loser. Of course, watching the Cubs lose at least 60 games every year at a minimum, you have to get used to it… but not today, not today. Nope, the Cubs are back to 500 after winning 4 straight. Saturday is supposed to be just as cold; I’m sure it’s even colder in Wrigley, being close to the lake and all. Need to get back… was just checking the schedule vs my son’s school schedule… maybe Memorial Day. Maybe the Cubs can keep winning until then. Go Cubs!
