Who is Justin Fields? Well, you can figure that out. You can look him up, watch highlights, listen to projections. You can hear the positives, the negatives. On Thursday night, when the Bears traded up from the 20th to the 11th pick in the draft, he became the Bears 2021 first round selection. Why is that important?
It’s important for obvious reasons; unless you’ve been living under a rock for your entire life as a Bears fan, you know the history at the QB position. Unless you are of a certain age, you have never seen a franchise QB play in a Bears uniform. Don’t fool yourself; Cutler was not one. However, do you remember the feeling you got when the Bears traded for him? I remember how I felt. I remember that feeling of “finally”, that feeling of hope; we’ve finally got OUR GUY! Jay turned out to be just A GUY. I didn’t have that same feeling when the Bears took Trubisky; I was hopeful, but not overly excited. I am excited right now.
I am excited that the Bears have someone on their roster that has the chance to be better than just a backup QB; I know, we’ve set the bar really low here in Chicago. Just being honest though… going into the season with Dalton and Foles as our two options… I’d jump out a damn window. I’m back, sitting on the couch now. Sure, will Justin start week 1? You can hear Pace now, actually he really did say it… Dalton is our starter; that’s fine. Fields has to prove himself, again. This isn’t college any more, but with that low bar in front of you, we’re expecting you to hurdle that pretty quickly, although don’t be getting too crazy on us and start hurdling defenders out there. Can you see it?

We’ve had some dreams alright. Watson, Wilson, Rodgers? Surely, we’ve had higher hopes than just another retread at the most important position in sports. We’ve yearned to know how it felt to have a QB that is actually one of the best players on our team; we’ve waited for a legitimate starter at the very least. We’re wondered what it’s like to have a true franchise QB…
Who is Justin Fields? Is he just the next bust of a selection for us? We’ve been down that road before; I don’t need to remind us. We think, if the Patriots selected Mac Jones than did we really make the right choice? Did we follow up passing up Mahomes with passing up the next Tom Brady? Hahaha…. We’re still only going to get 6 wins this year; we don’t have a RB… that’s what I heard from my brother in law. No, no… not tonight; I’m not going to think that NOW. No, now? Sky is the limit. This pick has allowed us to dream big again, to imagine another Super Bowl in Chicago. I imagine sitting in front of my TV with my son, watching Fields tear it up out there for us… throwing, running… WINNING. Can you see it?
Who knows what will happen in Week 1; who knows how this season will go… who really knows how Justin Fields will turn out. I’m not worrying about that right now. No, I’m dreaming; don’t wake me. The Bears did what I, and most of us, have asked them to do; they’ve drafted another QB. They’ve bought back into the game; they’ve put their chips back on the table. Remember when I said you gotta play to win? You need to keep drafting a QB until you find one? Well, we drafted one; we found one. Justin, nothing but the best of luck to you; good fricking luck my man. If you don’t know, you will know; if you turn out to be what all of us hope you can be… yeah… OK, I’m going back to sleep now; don’t disturb me… I’m dreaming. Bear TF Down!
