After the Blackhawks loss to the Predators on Friday night, it was pretty much over; another loss to the Lightning last night, and yes, I think it’s official: this is the end of the 2021 season.
It’s been a good one though; it really has. Heading into this season, I thought it would be flushed right down the toilet; the Blackhawks certainly exceeded expectations… I don’t think there is any disputing that. Yet, once they started showing something on the ice, once they started showing they belonged, that they were a legit playoff contender, there started to be a small level of expectation; hey, maybe they really can do this! Maybe they will shock us all and play well enough to get into the postseason, where anything can happen. For a while there, a good long while, the Blackhawks looked pretty comfortable in that 4th seed in the division; today they are in 6th. They are 7 points behind the 4th place Predators, and 5 points behind the 5th place Stars, with 7 games remaining. They are still mathematically alive, since you don’t see that “e” next to their name in the standings, but for all intensive purposes, the Hawks will come up a little bit short in 2021.
How about all those rookies who scored their first goals this year? There was a bunch. And then there was the old guard; Duncan Keith looked pretty decent this year, while Patrick Kane, well, he was Patrick Kane, still kicking ass. We had some nice surprises at goalie, which helped us look so good for so long; I think Lankinen is just out of gas… I think he’ll be fine. And Subban… he’s been pretty good too; a nice one-two punch with Lankinen. At the end of the day though, we just played too many games against the best teams in hockey, specifically Tampa Bay, Florida, and Carolina, all teams we would have seen a lot less of had it been a normal year. But, as we’ve said many times over the past year plus, thanks COVID. Yeah, they are all juggernauts; whoever survives out of those 3 will win the Cup this year… pretty sure of that.

This medicine is more preferred than discount levitra rx just because of incomplete detoxification.Another big “what if” is with Jonathan Toews; would have loved to see him on the ice at some point this year. If we had a healthy Captain, I certainly think we’d have a few more points. Heck, if Kirby was healthy all year, I think we’d have a better record. Losing him for the first half plus of the season hurt as well. Losing two of your top five players for most or all of the year while playing the 3 best teams in hockey way more than we normally would… yeah, I guess the Blackhawks really did exceed expectations this year.
It’s still sad though; no Stanley Cup playoffs for our boys. Kind of goes back to the other day, when I was saying don’t ever take for granted the success your teams enjoy. Man, back in the 2010s, the Hawks were running shit; maybe we took for granted getting to the playoffs every year… maybe we took for granted the last Cup in 2015… I don’t know, maybe. Just savor the success when it is here; enjoy every single fricking game of it. Hopefully next year will be more normal in the NHL, which will include the Blackhawks as playoff participants. I’ll enjoy these last 7 games of the year… Go Hawks!
