March 13, 2021: High Hopes

As the days go by, the more I see about Russell Wilson coming to the Bears… maybe it’s just a bunch of BS? I can appreciate everyone’s enthusiasm; I am very optimistic as well. I’m just not buying it. I think Wilson is going to stay exactly where he is.

When did all the “troubles” start in Seattle for Wilson? I thought this had just sprung up since the Super Bowl, but this stuff has been going on longer than that? He complained about getting hit too much, then he talked about teams he would potentially play for. Once the Bears got mentioned in that group, we went crazy… rightfully so in my opinion. Adding Russell Wilson to this current roster, assuming nobody of note is going back from the defensive side of the ball, assuming Allen Robinson aka Mr. Twitter Drama is resigned, I don’t know… I’m thinking Super Bowl? I’ve thought that before…

It sounds like it should be official soon, the departure of Mitch Trubisky that is. I wish him luck wherever he goes. Although part of me would hate to see him do well somewhere else, the bigger part of me knows that he’s not that great of a QB. If he happens to land in the right spot, get his chance, improve his game, and do well, then so be it. I’m sure that’s what will happen.

Just like I’m sure Wilson, and for that matter Watson, will not be in a Bears uniform next year. We should stop living that dream scenario and get back to reality, which is… who is going to be our starting QB next year? If not one of our two dream candidates, then who? Just saying that depresses me. We cannot go into next season with Foles as our starting QB; we just can’t, period. I guess that’s why we’re hanging those high hopes on one of those two guys, because without either of them, I’m not sure what happens. Darnold? Alex Smith? Mariota? A rookie draft pick? Anybody feeling any better?

It’s this QB saga that seems to be the recurring nightmare for us Bears fans. Why can’t we get it right? When is it our turn to have that franchise QB? Wouldn’t it be nice to watch the Bears play being lead by an all-pro at the QB position? I don’t even know how that feels. In fact, we’re so scarred that I hear people bringing up Jay Cutler… he was a franchise QB… he was the best QB in our lifetimes. This is how bad things have been, when we’re trying to christen some bum who lead the team to one playoff appearance his entire career here a “franchise QB”… wrong! But looking at our options over the years, you see why folks would make that jump; you understand why we’re so excited about the possibility of adding a guy like Russell Wilson.

I hope I’m wrong. I hope the Bears do land one of those two guys. I’m not getting my hopes up, that’s for sure. If it happens, great… I’ll go nuts, like everybody else… although I was happy when we got Cutler too… but until then, I’m looking at our current situation with Foles as our QB, and I’m not feeling too great. Assuming Wilson or Watson don’t come here, what is the plan? One day, one day we’ll be free of QB drama… right?
