November 15, 2020: NBS

So what did you do on your No Bears Sunday? Back in the day, I loved Sundays like this. We had the NFL package; we’d flip around and watch every single game. Yeah, there was a whole lot less swearing at the TV, unless of course we were betting on the games and losing, but other than that, it was a normal NFL Sunday. Plenty of football, plenty of eating, plenty of drinking. Nowadays, not so much…

Nowadays, I prefer the Bears play every Sunday at noon. If not, then my whole schedule gets thrown off. Sure, did we get a head start on my son’s Social Studies and Science projects on Sunday? Yes. Was I able to putz around the house and garage doing things that have been on my “honey-do” list for weeks? Yes. Did I take a nap? A short one… the way the Bears have been playing lately I’ve snuck those in mid-game anyways. Yeah, I’m getting old. Sure, I checked my fantasy lineups, making some changes before the games. To top myself leaving Hines on the bench on Thursday night, I didn’t put in Higgins from the Bengals or Cole from the Jaguars. It won’t cost me in one league, but in the other, unless Mooney outscores Cook on MNF, I’m done because of my moves, or lack thereof. Sure, I was keeping track of my fantasy stats throughout the day. I didn’t have many guys playing in the early games, so had to wait until later in the day anyways to see how it all shook out. And yes, I did finally tune into a little football late on Sunday. I saw the Bills take the lead over the Cardinals late before turning it off to go eat dinner. Did I miss anything? Yeah, I guess it was a typical NBS for me, which will basically be on repeat next week during the bye.

See, because when the Bears play on prime time, my normal routine is disrupted. It’s not like back in the day, when we’d start drinking in the afternoon, getting plenty toasty before the kickoff. I didn’t always have to work on Mondays… But now, yes, that thing called work gets in the way. So instead of doing my pre game preparations, I’m stuck at work, mindlessly sending emails or attending meetings, with the Bears game on my mind the whole day. Sure, I’ll still wear a jersey on game day to the job, as long as I’m not dealing with any clients, and nowadays, that is few and far between… you know, COVID and stuff. I’ll get home, have dinner, and spend some time with my son before he gets ready for bed, but that whole routine is wrecked. Have to get him in the shower early, try to read his 30 minutes early, so we can spend a little time watching the game before he has to go to bed. He’s only 8, so yeah, he still goes to bed pretty early on school days. And yes, he is IN school; send him to a Catholic school… they do their own thing, which has been GREAT by the way. So… I’ll watch the first quarter, miss part/most of the 2nd quarter, then settle back down for halftime. No big deal really, especially considering the 2nd quarters the Bears have turned in this year…. shit, most quarters… haha.

Don’t really have a strong feeling one way or another about this game. Vikings are playing a lot better… although our record vs them since Nagy has been here is 4-0. Who knows. But I do know, I wish they would have played on Sunday. We’ll make it work though… enough bitching. Bear Down!
