Well, well, well… Coming off our worst performance of the year, we roll into a short week, and a Thursday night tilt with a QB we have never beat. Tom Brady will be wearing a different uniform, and is a couple years older than the last time we met, but he still will present a challenge for our defense. Even if our defense holds the Tampa Bay offense in check, our offense remains the problem.
Papa Vegas likes the Bucs, as he should, as should everybody. After watching Sunday’s game, I feel like this one will be a bloodbath. The opening line of -5.5 for TB made sense. What doesn’t make sense is that the line has dropped to -3.5… I know the Bucs have some injuries, but… really? It’s making me feel a bit better about the Bears… if you know what I mean.
Any way you cut it, we’ll need the offense to score some points. How many you ask? Well, a lot more than 1 FG and 1 garbage time TD. How about we shoot for more than 20 points for starters? I don’t think less than that will get the job done, at least not this week. How good is the Bucs defense? Well, a quick search tells me they’re top 10… not as good as the Colts “historic” defense, but slightly better than us. I was hoping they were worse… What will Nagy and Foles show us this week? Was it because it was Foles first start? I hope so. Is it Nagy’s play calling? Well, if that’s it, I guess that’s not the worst case scenario, although why doesn’t he have this down pat with this team yet? Again, because of the new QB? If it’s the offensive line, that’s probably worst case scenario, because no matter who you put at QB, and our options are not good, our offense will struggle. What does the play calling sheet look like for “best plays with a bad offensive line”? If Nagy is as good as we originally thought, he should find a way. No excuses, right? Well, Trubisky certainly didn’t pan out; Nagy had a good start… but now what?
One guy who has panned out has been Tom Brady. We’ve faced him 5 times in his career; we’re 0-5. The last time we beat the Patriots was in 2000. Although we did beat them in the biggest game between the two franchises; never miss an opportunity to bring that up. With the Bucs, without his daddy, Brady seems to be doing just fine. We get to watch him first hand in this one; hopefully we’ll see him on his back a lot, something we’ve rarely seen. Can we hold their offense down enough to get the W?

Ace in the Hole: Foles 2 TD passes
The offense will finally wake up, but it will not be enough. A late drive by Tampa Bay will provide the difference. Foles will move the Bears to the 35 yard line with a couple seconds left, but the game tying FG will be no good. Yeah, I like the pain…
Although the loss will hurt, especially in this fashion, the fact that the offense showed signs of life is promising. Still with a winning record at 3-2, there is some hope for the remainder of the season. Bear Down!
