The Bulls have a new coach! When I saw the announcement come across, that Billy Donovan will be the new head coach of the Bulls, I was pretty happy. I mean, after Jim Boylen, we couldn’t do worse right? That’s what I thought when we had Hoiberg… But no, seriously, this finally feels like a good hire; will I finally be able to let Thibs go now?
In case you didn’t know, I still can’t get over getting rid of Thibs; I loved him. I know things didn’t work out in Minnesota after he was shown the door, but I think he will find more success in the NBA; I hope he does. Anybody who followed Thibs would be closely scrutinized in my eyes. When this guy ended up being Fredberg… it was too easy; no possible way he could stack up. But looking back, Fred was better than Jim right? Let’s try to forget these last 2 coaches… Forgetting those guys and the guys that made those shitty hires will become easier over time. Winning will help erase it quicker. With Billy, are the Bulls immediately in position to take the next step and make the playoffs?
I knew he had coached in the NBA, but didn’t realize how well he had done. I thought this was another guy with an awesome college coaching resume that couldn’t cut it in the NBA. Actually, if you check his record at OKC, and I did, it’s 243-157; that’s good for a 60% clip. Hoiberg was 42%; Boylen was 32%… Thibs is 59%… that’s with his Wolves days dragging him down. OK, no more Thibs… Donovan was no slouch. I was happily surprised with that.

I’m good with that. Oh yeah…. he played bball too; that can’t hurt right? Look, anybody would have been better than what we had, but I’m not sure there’s anybody that would have been a better hire than him. I’m genuinely excited about the Bulls again.
What does it all mean? All this movement in the offseason… all this positive movement, creating excitement for us Bulls fans; what’s next? Well, at the end of the day, games are won and lost on the court; it’s on the players. Do the Bulls have enough talent? I do believe we’re better than our record has indicated over the last couple years; I just don’t know how much better. Will the combination of Artie and Billy help bring in more talent? Yes, I do think so. So you’re telling me players will actually want to play for the Bulls again? Look, I’m against all this “super-team” crap, but if one or two guys wanted to come here to play with the Bulls, there ain’t nothing wrong with that. Brighter days ahead Bulls fans, brighter days ahead… Go Bulls!
