I was watching the Cubs of course. After giving up the grand slam to the Tigers in the 7th, down 7-0, I was just sitting there taking my medicine, a gluttony for punishment, prepared to watch the final 2 innings. Then I got a text message: 1st no no almost complete. I was like, who? He said: White Sox pitcher. I was like, hey, I can watch that game. I flipped onto Comcast Sports…. or NBC sports… or whatever it’s called nowadays. The guy that sent me the text is my buddy from LA; he’s not a Sox fan. He was interested because he has Giolito on his fantasy team, and a no hitter… man, that’s HUGE points. I honestly don’t care who the pitcher is or what team he plays for, seeing a no hitter is always cool. I picked it up in the 8th inning.
I didn’t care that it was the White Sox. Fresh off hating them for a weekend, even more so because they kicked our ass, it was a potential no hitter for God’s sake; I needed to watch. Plus, since it wasn’t my team, there was no pressure of jinxing it. Lucas looked flat out dominant in that top of the 8th. I mean, it is the Pirates, but he was mowing them down; I hadn’t seen the first 7 innings, but if they were anything like this one, and based on the amount of hits the Pirates had gotten, I would say they were, he was overpowering. Sure, it wasn’t Jake or Big Z, but like I said, any no hitter is cool to see, even if was across town. It was fun to see. I didn’t stay tuned in for all the non-socially distanced celebrations, or injuries caused by them, or any of the post game, but I did make sure my son saw the highlights of this game in the morning during Quick Pitch. Congrats to Giolito, the Sox, and their fans; it was a nice moment.
