Well that was quick. Artie hit the ground running as Bulls GM and has hired 2 assistant GMs: JJ Polk and Pat Connelly. I have no ideas who these guys are, but that doesn’t really matter. The fact is Artie is wasting no time in getting things in order in his new house. I like that.
This is a good first impression; that goes a long way. What I’m really waiting for are decisions on Paxson, who seems he’ll be safe, Forman, and Boylen. If we can’t get a clean sweep, I’ll settle for 2 out of 3, as long as one of those 2 is Jim Boylen. Like I said yesterday, that has to happen. Keeping Boylen on as coach would be asinine; it would be a horrible reflection of Artie’s basketball IQ. You’d have to think that it’s only a matter of time. Get your team in place, and then move on to basketball operations. At this point, it would be hard to imagine Gar keeping his job. I’m sure the guy has some amount of talent, but letting him go would satisfy some of us blood thirsty Bulls fans. We want to see someone pay for this current state of the team. Giving Gar his walking papers would do that, at least for me. Showing the door to Boylen and Forman would satisfy me.
Imagine doing a legit search for a new Bulls coach. Imagine coaches of all sorts, all types of experience, vying for this highly coveted job. Imagine not just putting some guy in place because we’re idiots. Imagine that. Does that mean Thibs is coming back? Hey, I love Thibs; when he was showed the door, I was furious. I didn’t hold anything against him for the Rose injuries. He got the most out of all the teams he coached; that’s all we can ask for. Sure, did he play guys a lot of minutes? Yes. And is that opposite of the trend in today’s NBA? Yes. Does today’s NBA suck? He was a throwback, that’s for sure. I loved it. That being said, I’m not advocating bringing him back. What I would like is to bring somebody in that is going to make us feel like we have a smart basketball mind leading the troops on the court. Although bringing in just about anyone would be an upgrade over Boylen, we really need to get this right. I think that will be the biggest, most important move for Artie.

You just have to think that there are more wins out there with these guys. That being said, I’m not so emotionally tied to any of them. Maybe we can start going through the roster next…
It’s fun to see the Bulls making moves. I have to admit, I am feeling a little bit of excitement here. It’s fun to talk about this stuff. It’s fun to see the Bulls get a fresh start. It’s only been a couple days, but it feels like the trajectory of this team has already changed. At the minimum, my level of hope has increased. Could this Bulls team be good again soon? Go Bulls!
