I think I’ve made my thoughts pretty clear on this subject, but since we have nothing but time, let me review. I think the Bears did a good job getting together a QB plan for the 2020 season.
There still may be an additional part of the plan yet to come, although I do not think the Bears will be drafting a QB this year. The acquisition of Nick Foles was the final move to address the position. I’m good with that.
There are two factions of Bears fans: those that are completely done with Mitch and those that want to give him one more chance. I’m in that second category. For those of you in the first category, I’m sure you wanted to go ALL IN at the QB position. Forget getting somebody to compete with Mitch; you wanted somebody to take the reigns right now. For those with that train of thought, I think Nick Foles could still do that if need be; that’s the beauty of this move. Sure, he’s not Tom Brady, but who else would you have preferred? Phillip Rivers? Cam Newton? Andy Dalton? Out of those choices, there’s only one guy who has a Super Bowl ring; that’s the guy the Bears acquired. Isn’t that what we want? To see the Bears win the Super Bowl again, which for those of us under the age of 34 would be the first ever. Then I think this choice should satisfy that group.

Whether in training camp, preseason, week 1, week 4, or week 8, Mitch may be playing his final game as a Chicago Bear this year. However, let’s just say Mitch gets it together… Look, I’m not an excuse maker, but… he started slow last year, that’s a fact… then he got hurt, that’s a fact. When he came back, Nagy had him throw 50+ times in his first game; that’s not right. And yes, he did have some good games… and yes, there were against crappy teams. And yes, his running game, OL, TEs, and play calling contributed, correct? It wasn’t ALL on Mitch was it? So he gets one more chance… but make no mistake, this year is make or break.
If he makes it, then the Bears are playing into 2021. If he doesn’t, the Bears still may be; that’s the beauty of this move. The Bears have done this to ensure that the QB position does not sink this team. The defense will be solid again, if not better in the 2nd year under Pagano along with the additions that have been made. If Mitch cannot lead this offense effectively, because make no mistake, it will fall on the QB at the end of the day, then Nick will step in. Now if Nick cannot do it, then we’re screwed… but at least we have a 2nd option; Chase Daniel was NOT an option. Sure, he was good for a game or two max, but not somebody that could come in and play the rest of the season. We have somebody now who can do that.
Now the Bears should do everything else they can to put the team in the best position to succeed… the defense, the offense, or the QB, whoever that may be, in the best position to succeed. We have to trust in Pace at least one more time; Nagy is still good right? Because if Mitch goes down in flames, then that should be Pace’s ass… unless of course Nick comes in and leads us to a Super Bowl, which would bail his ass out… but he would have been the guy that made this deal happen. By Pace trying to cover his ass, he’s covering ours too; now we have to see where the chips fall, and hope for the best. I sure hope the NFL season doesn’t get impacted by all this crap… can’t wait to Bear Down!
