November 24, 2019: Our Level

posted in: Bears | 0

The Bears won, yay! We found another team at our level that we could beat. But hey, I’m not going to be that guy who complains about a win, especially this year. We’ll take whatever we can get. I guess building up some momentum to take into next year? Are you a subscriber to that theory?

In our last 5 games, we have outscored the opposition 50-10 in the 3rd quarter. Unfortunately, the Bears only scored 26 points combined in the other 3 quarters… what does it all mean? Well, let’s think about this. For the Bears to come out of the gates pretty much all season long how they have, that’s got to be coaching. The prep work done for the week’s opponent, the game plan laid out the week leading up to the game, something is lacking, big time. Pretty much the entire first half has been a train wreck. Yet, coming out in the 3rd quarter we look good. That tells me that once Nagy and staff see what we’re up against, they make adjustments and respond accordingly. But then what happens in the 4th quarter?

There’s some pretty drastic shifts going on. Is this just going to take time for Nagy and staff to get better at? Has the league already figured out what he’s trying to do? What is so magical about the 3rd quarter? Just more questions in a season full of them.

If you think about it, the Bears have probably played 1 good game the entire season; did I already mention that? It was the game against the Vikings at home; the only game all year that was never in question. That was the game where Mitch got knocked out. Chase came in against a defense that was unprepared for him, and did well. The defense played like 2018, and the Bears got a huge victory seemingly setting us up for a nice long run. It never happened. Is this the start of that run?

I doubt it. Again, not trying to take away from a Bears victory week, but let’s be real. Being real tells us that we should win on Thursday against the Lions, which would bring us to 500 for the year, and keep some of us believing. I don’t. This ship has sailed, but it’s still nice to win. I’m not sure about building that mojo for next year, but I do know that winning is better than losing. Furthermore, seeing the Packers get their ass handed to them on Sunday night, felt really good. If we’re not going anywhere, I shift my focus to the Packers being eliminated from contention. That didn’t happen on this night, but man, did they get smacked. Glad to see that happen to somebody else for a change; no better team for it to happen to. The big bad Packers? Ha! F them.

Yeah, it’s unfortunately a familiar position for us. I certainly thought the tide had turned last year, but I was wrong; not the first time I’ve been wrong, and certainly won’t be the last time. You can’t turn off my Bears optimism… it’ll be back, but wounded, for next year. Just hope the Bears don’t embarrass us on Thanksgiving. Bear Down!
