November 2, 2019: Same Old Bulls

I was back in the United Center for the first time this year on Friday night vs the Pistons.  It was actually a work outing… 55 of us took up almost 3 complete rows in the 300 level.  It was a lot of fun, and hey, the Bulls actually won too.  But unfortunately, for most of this young season, it’s been the same old Bulls.

Why did I think the Bulls would actually make some progress this year?  Why do I feel like writing them off this early?  Well, the schedule thus far has been easy, and the Bulls have been bad.  The upcoming schedule is going to be hard, so I imagine they’ll do better?  Not likely, but nothing would surprise me at this point.  The positive vibes I had surrounding the Bulls have yielded negative results.  I’m hoping my negative vibes will have the opposite results.

Back to Friday though… I know the three point ball is the thing, but if you’re not good at it, don’t keep shooting them.  It’s exciting when a three pointer is shot… and made.  It feels like there are too many times this season, that the “made” part hasn’t been there.  Even on Friday, I felt like “no, don’t shoot that” feeling more than not.  They tried to blow this game too, but thankfully held on.

A visit from the Pistons this year means the return of Derrick Rose.  Man…  look, I loved Derrick Rose as much as anybody.  Fact is, I’m happy he’s no longer here.  Another fact is that I wish him well.  Yet another fact is that I will not be cheering for him against my own team.  I figured the cheers when he came into the game; I’m fine with that.  But the constant cheering throughout the game?  It was a bit too much.  Then came the MVP chants… really?  Are we that stupid?  I was part of those MVP chants… 8 years ago!!!  Oh yeah, he was part of my team at that time too.  I know, I like to live in the past too, when it comes to past sports glory and conquests.  I can watch the 85 Bears, the Bulls dynasty, the Hawks dynasty, and 2016 Cubs highlights all day long.  And yes, those Bulls teams with Derrick, Jo, Luol, Taj, Jimmy, Thibs… I loved them.  Unfortunately, we did not have a happy ending there… the biggest reason the ending was as such was due to Derrick Rose getting hurt.  Yes, can’t blame him for that specifically, but excuse me if I’m not going to continue to cheer him like he brought a title to Chicago.  Excuse me if I’m not going to cheer him when he’s making buckets against MY team.  Look, I said I wished him well… that’s where I draw the line.  I’m not going to beg for his number to be retired either… come on man.  When I booed him late in the game when he was at the free throw line trying to cut into the Bulls lead, I got a couple dirty looks.  People are ridiculous…

And so is the Bulls performance thus far… Are we looking at another tankfest?  Are we already setting up for another run at a top pick?  Say it ain’t so… but then I remember who the ownership and general management are, and I think, they deserve this…  But guess what?  We don’t!!!  I’m fricking sick of it.  With the All Star game coming here in a few months, will the Bulls continue to be one of the laughingstocks of the league?  Here’s hoping they return my current negative vibes with positive results.  Go Bulls!
