October 21, 2019: The Floodgates

Well, I did not expect to see the Bears play that shitty on Sunday vs the Saints, at home, coming off an ugly loss in London, coming off a bye week. I did not expect the Bears to make franchise history with the lowest number of rushing attempts in a game in 100 years. I did not expect the defense to give up that many points, but certainly when looking at the time of possession in this one, is understandable. Newsflash: time of possession which helps the defense stay fresh is helped by running the football. We have a theme going here.

What I did expect were the floodgates to open on the Trubisky bashing after another poor performance. If there weren’t enough people bashing Mitch already, there are more now… I mean, almost everybody. There were national media heads who are just jumping on the bandwagon of the easy target. There were local guys throwing in the white flag and joining in. There were “fans” who because of THIS performance have lost all hope with Mitch. It’s stupid already. Look, if you were already there, if you have already made your decision on Mitch, which many people have, fine. But, if you were convinced of this based on THIS game, you’re an idiot. Did Mitch look good? No. Has Mitch looked good this year? No. Was this his first game in a month? Yes. Was this his first game back from a separated shoulder? Yes. Are many QBs in the league successful when asked to throw the ball 50+ times? No. Are any QBs that haven’t played in a month that are coming off a shoulder injury that are asked to throw the ball 50 times ever successful? No, no, hell fricking no. And oh yeah, maybe this Saints defense is pretty good? Look, I’m not trying to make excuses for the guy. He missed throws; he’s missed throws all year. Is he the guy I thought we had? It certainly doesn’t look like it; I’m still holding out hope though. I’m not going to dump on him because of THIS game. No, I’m sticking to my guns. We will know for sure after this year is over if Mitch can be the guy. Do I feel like wasting another year with a great defense with a crappy QB? No, but I think it’s sink or swim with Mitch this year. After this year, reassess no doubt. This year though… we made our bed, we need to make it work. What’s up with Matt Nagy by the way?

It’s hard to come down so hard on this guy. After all, 15-7 in his first 22 games as coach, including a playoff appearance in his first year, should give this man some slack. Yet, it’s that finish from last year… it’s that fear that we’re letting a season get away from us… another season with an awesome defense… it’s hard not to be a little nervous right now; I get it. The thing that pissed me off is him saying we need to run the ball more… “I’m not an idiot”. OK, Matt…. you kind of set yourself up for that one. If we need to run the ball more, who can help us do that? Who’s in charge? Ahem… Mr. Nagy? While the Raiders game sort of felt like a vacation or field trip where the Bears thought they’d just show up and win, this Saints game, at home, coming off a loss like that, with 2 weeks to prepare, felt like a scary dose of reality. Is this who the Bears are?

Deep breath… it sucked man. Looking at 500 right now, seeing other teams in the NFC win, knowing we can’t piss any more games away, wondering if we even can pull it together… panic is not here yet, but it’s knocking. A home date with the Chargers surely is what the doctor ordered, no? Well, a win sure is in order. Another loss? Full blown panic is breaking down that door. Keep it out. Bear Down!!!
