October 12, 2019: Grinding

posted in: Bulls | 0

It was back on the court Saturday morning for game 3 of the Baby Bulls season. It didn’t go as well as the last game, but it was better than the first. 17-2 was the grim result, although I did think we played better than the score showed.

I knew we were in trouble when one of their kids pulled up and fired up a trey for one of his first shots. Good God. Yeah, a real three pointer…a nine year old… I’m going to put in the request for his birth certificate. I’ve got a couple kids who can barely throw the ball high enough to get it over the rim, and this kid here is pumping up treys?!? It didn’t go in by the way, but it certainly touched every part of the rim. He didn’t attempt another three pointer the rest of the game. But he did run a pretty impressive two kid show with their second best player. I mean, it was like Showtime out there. Kudos boys.

Our team played their butts off. Although our progress wasn’t evident in the final score, it was evident in our consistent hustle during the game. We were grinding out there. Biggest problem so far is two fold. We barely get any open shots, while the other team does. I think we went a whole quarter only giving up two points, but then we start losing focus on D. That’s got to be on me. We will work on that. As far as the open shots on our side, my son is going to play a big part in upping that number.

He is one of the fastest kids on the court with the dribble. Once he gets the rebound, he can take it coast to coast; he did that three times in this one. Problem was is that he stopped too far from the basket to shoot the ball. I told him…keep going… Don’t stop. Go all the way and lay it up. He’ll get better there.

Was happy with his individual season high of 5 rebounds in this one. Each one of the kids got a recorded stat in this one; I like that. Our smallest girl played her butt off. Very, very tentative in her first game, she came out playing hard nosed D in this one. Loved to see it. Trying to get one of our other girls to shoot; she was draining them in practice, but pulled back when she had a chance in the game. The other team had zero girls by the way; we have four. I like my girls though; they’re fiesty…they get after it. We’re going to be ok.
