October 6, 2019: Shock Treatment

posted in: Bears | 1

The Bears played their first game at noon today; I love the noon start times. Yet, I don’t think the Bears got the memo. They headed back into the locker room down 17-0 at halftime. It was like we were playing the best team in the NFL; it was certainly the best any team played against us for a half this year. It was the Raiders for God’s sake! I needed some shock treatment.

Now I got nothing against the Raiders. When we’re not playing them, which is 63 out of 64 games in a 4 year time period, I wish them well. You see, I have a good friend who is a die hard Raider fan. We went to a Bears Raiders game in Oakland together; it was a blast. You see, I respect the crazy fans; we have something in common. But if you told me the Raiders were going to beat us today, I’d say you were crazy. I guess that advantage I talked about them having over us in regards to the arrival time of both teams in London was certainly real. They took it to us. They ran the ball right down our throat. It’s one thing to give up points; we knew our defense wouldn’t hold everybody down. But the way they did it, I was in shock.

Then I started thinking of that Giants game last year, with Chase at the helm. I knew he wouldn’t quit; I knew we wouldn’t give up. We got the break we needed and we stormed through the door. 21 unanswered points, and the Bears were on top. That’s what I’m talking about. But the Raiders had the last word in this game, that turned out to be pretty damn entertaining after that embarrassing first half. They punched it in again, and ended up winning 24-21. Too bad outscoring them 21-7 in the second half wasn’t good enough. That’s why you have to play 60 minutes; certainly a lesson I thought these Bears would have mastered. Underestimating an opponent? How did we let this happen?

Maybe the Raiders are better than people think. That running game was solid. They out coached us; their play calling was superb. I hope they are this good; they still need to play the Packers and the Lions. But for a team that got dominated by the Vikings, the team we dominated, this should have been in the bank. That’s why you play the games.

It sort of felt like an exhibition game, being in London at all. Yet seeing Gruden’s post game theatrics come across my timeline still pissed me off. Making fun of the Bears post game win celebrations? Really? Saying it was the most fun he’s ever had? He won a Super Bowl. Is anybody believing the shit this clown is shoveling? You beat an NFC opponent that you see once every four years. But yes, there was something else…the whole Mack thing. Did he think this one regular season victory is going to clear him from trading a future hall of famer away? Haha… See you in the postseason John…or not.

Back to us, big time disappointment here. Yet, we were 3-2 last year too. For us, there’s nowhere to look but in the mirror. Yeah, the Raiders played well today; we still should have won this game. But when you don’t bring your A game every week, this is what happens. Do we need any more lessons boys? Enjoy the bye week, if you can, come back, and Bear TF Down!

I truly think that the Bears need an offensive co-ordinator. Take the playbook away from Nagy. Let him manage, and let someone with an offensive mindset do the game. The game plans to this point have been lacking something. Sure, he comes up with some imaginative plays, but not enough of them, and not enough of ‘normal’ game calling plays.
