Hey, I was happy we won the first game against the Reds, obviously. But I knew, looking at the matchups, that it would be the Tuesday night game against Sonny Gray that would be the tough game of the series. Thankfully, we would have our hottest pitcher on the mound, none other than Yu Darvish. Game on!
And it was game over in the first inning pretty much. Yu couldn’t get out of the first before giving up 3 runs to the Reds. Yeah, all those strikeouts were nice, tying the Cubs record for consecutive strikeouts with 8, getting close to the MLB record of 10 by Tom Seaver, but the damage had been done. Normally I would blame the offense, and sure, they have some of the blame here, but this was against one of the hottest pitchers in the majors in the 2nd half of the season. We knew we’d be up against it in this one. We knew we’d need a top notch performance from Darvish; we didn’t get it. Bottom line, he got outpitched; we took the L on the chin.

Every game from here on out will be our most important game of the year.
At least we won’t have to switch it ON for playoff mode… IF we get there. Yeah, we didn’t do ourselves any favors this year; we’ll have to own every bit of this. Yet, the fact that we are in the mix, fighting for any one of 3 playoff spots at this point, is a good place to be… I just thought we’d be in a better spot right about now. No dwelling on that shit… it’s time to win another ballgame. The Reds pitcher on Wednesday night… 2-11… no excuses OK? Time to win… now… Fly that damn W. Go Cubs!
