November 12, 2014: Our Current Hope

posted in: Bears, Blackhawks, Bulls | 6

With the Bears demise being chronicled here the past couple days, it’s time to turn our attention to something that makes us happy.  I could go on and on about the Bears, especially with the updated mantra of “no changes”, which simply is not good enough, and I will talk plenty more Bears, but I need some cheering up.  I caught some of the Bulls victory over Detroit on Monday, and some of the Blackhawks win last night over the Lightning.

It was good to see Derrick Rose back on the court; after what he said during yesterday’s off day, I think that’s all he should do.  Rose has been the target of many haters.  He’s missed most of the past 2 years with two separate knee injuries, which he’s taken the full time to come back from.  He’s making a lot of money and has not been on the court for the Bulls.  He sprained his ankle at the start of this year, leading to more missed games, which lead to more criticism.  I’ve been on his side the whole time.  I did not like his most recent comments.

To basically say the reason he isn’t rushing back from his most recent injuries is his concern for his post NBA career, when he’s attending business meetings and graduations, and doesn’t want his back to hurt at them is BS.  So let me get this straight… you don’t want to give it your 110% this year or any other year with the Bulls because you’re worried about what happens AFTER basketball?  No fricking way.  Of course, I don’t want anyone to have a “poor quality” of life, but let’s get serious.  Derrick, you’re 25 years old.  You play basketball…NOT football.  If a sore back or sore knees is what you’re worried about, I can’t feel sorry for you.

You could have said you were worried about the long term, meaning this year, the postseason, your Bulls career.  But once you said POST-Bulls career, you lost me.  Everybody says stupid stuff; this qualifies.  Don’t you know you’re already under the microscope?  Don’t you know how many naysayers you have?  You should know you have that many people in YOUR corner too.  Comments like this do not help your case.

If that’s how you really feel, maybe you should have never taken up sports in the first place.  If that’s how you really feel, is THAT the reason you didn’t come back earlier from your other injuries?  Look, like I said everybody makes mistakes, and I’m still in your corner DRose, but choose your words carefully.  We’re not too fond of ANYONE not giving their 110% out there for whatever reason, just look at the Bears.

You want to see a leader, look no further.  This guy is the protype.  He leads not only by example, but with his “captain serious” attitude.  That doesn’t mean he doesn’t have fun, that doesn’t mean he is screaming at guys… that means when he talks, people listen.  That means, when he says something, he goes out and does it.  That means whatever the team needs, he does.  Take notes Chicago teams…

Every single thing you read and see with your own two eyes point to this guy being one of the best leaders of all time here in the city.  If only we could replicate him and place him on our other teams.  Teams like the Bears, with no real leader, or the Cubs, with a ton of young guys, or the Sox, with a recently retired leader, or the Bulls, with a “leader” talking about his post career concerns.  Wait, I guess Joakim Noah is the real leader there…

I’m going to give DRose a pass on this one… since this is the first time he really pissed me off.  Bottom line, just go out there and play… play like we know you can… play like an MVP… play like a guy who will lead us to NBA title number 7.  More play, less talk.

I still have hope for him and the Bulls, and for the Blackhawks led by Chicago’s top leader.  They ARE our hope right now.  With the Bears settling for status quo, and the playoffs a fantasy, we need them.  We need the Bulls and the Hawks now… more than ever.

Rose’s comments were like public suicide with his track record so far. He just threw gas on the existing flames and made all his harshest critics smile. He almost put 3 sentences together in that response to the reporter. Almost! Maybe he should go back to Memphis and retake his ACT himself after his NBA career and go from there.
Send him on his way out of town with Marshall and Cutler.

Any updates on MLB’s tampering investigation of the Cub’s?

He just fueled the hunt and has only himself to blame. Just play basketball and shut up.
