Sunday was Game Six between the Blues and Bruins. This was supposed to be the coronation of the Blues… finally… after 51 years… seeing the first Stanley Cup in their franchise history. I was OK with it. But… it didn’t happen. They got crushed, and they better hope that they can pull this out in Game 7, or that early released celebratory article by their owner could come back as one of those things… I actually think they will still win the Cup… God I hate Boston.
Anyways, we have plenty of experience with Game Six. In fact, on this very date in 2010, a dynasty was born when the Blackhawks broke their own drought beating the Flyers in Philadelphia to raise the Cup. I remember that night… when the Flyers scored late, I punched the hell out of the couch in our apartment, where my dad and brother were watching with me. I remember thinking the best thing about that happening, and the game going to OT, was that the next goal by the Hawks would set off a crazy celebration. Little did I know that nobody knew the puck went in, except for Kane skating back down the ice, throwing his gloves off. Little trade off for the first Stanley Cup in my lifetime. You know, the Blackhawks never got pushed to a Game 7 in the Stanley Cup Finals. We did feel that pressure in earlier rounds over the years, but never when at the end of the line.
I like to think about the second Cup, especially around this time. Remembering that we cracked the Bruins, winning another Cup on the road in Game Six… yeah, that was sweet… 17 seconds. And finally, our 3rd game six, this time a victory at home against the Lightning. Yeah, don’t mind not seeing a Game 7 for the Stanley Cup final. The pressure watching that game would be crazy. Funny enough, we never had to see a Game 7 in the Jordan Bulls era in the NBA Finals. Yes, it was the Cubs who took us to the edge… of course.

That game is all they’re thinking about. Every hour, every minute that passes by is just a countdown to potential glory… or potential devastation. God I miss that feeling. It’s only been about 3 years, but man am I ready for it again. To see our teams play on the highest level… nothing beats it.
Good luck to both teams. It sucks that Boston is in there, but maybe St. Louis can still knock them off; still makes me sick to say that. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on it. Ready for the Blackhawks to be back in the mix again.
