June 7, 2019: Three to One

Friday night in Oakland, the Golden State Warriors were supposed to even the series. Throw the Raptors the first game; first time in the Finals in front of their home crowd. I could see it. That would be the last game they win. They lost Game 2 right on schedule. But then, they took Game 3 in Oakland. Sure without KD and Klay, ok. If the Warriors were full strength, the Raptors wouldn’t stand a chance. Even without KD, I still think the Warriors win. That was the case on Friday night, except they didn’t win. The Raptors beat them down; it was fun to see.

What’s up with KD? You know he could play; there’s no doubt. You see all the stories they’re running to defend his decision to sit there and watch his team lose when he could be out there helping them. Heck, he doesn’t even watch the game with his team; sorry, no excuse for that. The dude has got his eyes on the prize, and that’s what he sees when he looks in the mirror. He’s about to cash in on a max deal. Why would he risk that for a team that he won’t be with in a few days? He’s ready to move on…New York here he comes. Forget another chance at a ring. He’ll find out how hard that is to accomplish without a super team, although I’m sure he’ll try to stack the deck wherever he goes, following the Lebron playbook page for page. Yet even down three to one, if he came back, the Warriors could come back. They’ve had it done to them; I’m sure they could pull it off if KD put his team ahead of himself.

The 3-1 series deficit…ah, that brings back memories. Can the Warriors do it without KD? Are the Raptors that good? I laugh when people compare Kawhi to MJ now. It’s not surprising though. He is the gold standard, and everyone who does great is put up against him. Everybody pales though, even this latest player. He’s been good though, really good. I like Gasol too. Danny Green. That other dude that can shoot, and that guy who can do a little bit of everything. Ok, I don’t know much about them but one more win in this series, and they’ll have a small place in my heart.

Definitely not counting any chickens, but just like Friday night, I’ll have my eye on the game. I acted like I wasn’t aware that Golden State was getting beat when my friend texted me. But I knew, I knew. The hater in me was getting excited; very pleased with the result. Now hoping for one more. Hoping the KD ship has sailed, and the Warriors right behind him. Let’s go Raptors.
